eight; awkward dinners and secret travels

The task ahead was going to be hard, no doubt. I not only had to prepare myself for a social interaction with people I barely knew, but I also had to somehow convince my fake boyfriend to go on a date with me. Oh, and I still had no idea what to wear.

I, as most girls do, put the big problem off until the latest minute possible. The knock on the front door echoed through the apartment. "Casey! Get out here!" He stumbled out of his room, seeming more than surprised that I actually needed him. "Get dressed up. We're going on a date."

And so we ended up here, the cafe down the street that had proved to have delicious dinner rolls and very annoying waiters. The red-lipped blonde stuttered out the orders in her squeaky voice. We agreed with what she said and she strutted off to the kitchen, her high heels clicking loudly against the dark wood floor. All six of us sat huddled around the table awkwardly making small chat, the whole time Casey keeping a scowl on his face. I guess he probably never thought it would come to this point, because I sure didn't.

Rachel's friend, Samantha was apparently her name, sat slouched in her chair next to her seemingly quiet date. All she did was smack her gum loudly and pick at her hot pink laquered nails. Samantha didn't hit me as Rachel's type of friend, but I'd only the known the girl for two days, so what was I to know?

The waitress finally came back with a steaming plate of food for each of us. All of us were relieved that the food came and it helped cure the awkwardness a bit. Samantha sighed from across the table and said,"Thank God, I was starving my balls off." That caused a small wave of laughter throughout the table, at least.

After awhile, Casey leaned over and whispered in my ear. "Follow me." He pushed himself out of the chair, smiling at everyone as if saying he wouldn't be long. I stared at my half-eaten plate of food, my stomach growling as if in protest. I gave in and did the same and got up and followed him through the hallway he was now traveling down.

We were finally standing outside the cafe, Casey leaned up against the brick exterior. "That was quite possibly the worst hour of my life, and that's saying a lot. Let's get out of here." I pulled my sweater tight aginst my bare shoulders, attempting to block out the chilly air of the night. "Casey, we can't just leave. They're all in there waiting for us to come back." He smirked and said,"Live a little, Noah," and he started pulling me by my wrist towards his car far away across the parking lot. He started running, still pulling me along. I couldn't help but laugh as the cold wind blew my hair back as we sprinted to his car. I felt alive, my blood pulsing through me, Casey's hand still in mine. Once we reached the destination, we were both panting and laughing and crying. I felt so alive.

Casey walked over to the other side of the car and opened up the door. "My lady, welcome home. Are you ready to live now?" He held the door and I curtsied, going along with the act. "Yes sir, I have come to the realization that living is much more fun than not."

We drove in pure darkness, for what seemed like forever. Stars lit up the blackness and I watched them fly by outside my window. "Where are we even going, Casey?" I yawned and checked the time.

After a long silence, he finally responded. "My dear Noah, I told you we are teaching you how to live a little and that starts with an adventure to a secret location I cannot tell you, due to the fact that it's a secret of course." I sighed. I hated secrets. "Come ooooon, tell me pleeeeease?" I pouted out my bottom lip and gave him my saddest puppy dog eyes. It worked on my dad, why not him? Casey laughed and poked me in the lip and said, "You'll just have to wait and see."

I eventually gave up and went back to watching the darkness expand in front of me, the road covered in shadows from the now appearing trees.

Casey pulled the car off to the side of the road. From what I could tell, we were in the middle of nowhere. "Get out, your about to have the time of your life," Casey said with a smile.
