ELENA

How? Was the question. How were we so stupid? How could we risk the lives of our loved ones? How could people possibly be so selfish? How could I be so selfish? Lucas Hemmings, gone. Why? Because I didn't think. The boy who was willing to sacrifice everything to protect his friends. Now look at where we are. How is this real? Why is he gone? Both questions could be answered easily, except by those who don't understand.

Lucas had a family, we all have a family. Not just the gang, but flesh and blood. Lucas has seven sisters and 3 brothers, his parents passed a few years back. Nicole, Gizelle, Peyton, Kenny, Jack and Cameron, Bella, His twin sister Kristen, Tessa, and then Cassidy. The Hemmings family was pretty big but that is what made them so close. Knowing I was part of the reason as to why they don't have Lucas anymore, breaks my heart.

Especially for Kristen, I have no idea how it feels to lose a twin. I gave her that feeling, I tore their family apart.

Why him? Was the next question I asked. Why did Lucas have to go? Why did god have to take him from us? The boy who brought joy? The boy who wanted nothing more than to make everyone happy? The boy who always did the right thing, even if he went against the rules? The boy who had a future?

I didn't understand. How someone so selfless can be swiped off the Earth in seconds. But those who are selfish get treated as though Angels.

I silently walked on the dock of Luke's home. A few months back he gave me a key to his house, just in case. The wind blowing my hair to the side. The ocean splashing refreshing waves. A silent tear slipped from my eye. How could I do this to Rose?

"You know it wasn't your fault, Elena." I pursed my lips. "It is, he should be here, enjoying his home, sleeping in his bed. He deserves to wake up. We all wake up from a bad dream, why can't he?" I turned back and looked out into the ocean. "Irene called them, his family." I blew out a light breath. "Am I bad person?" I asked. "What? No, of course not, why would you ask that?"

I looked back over to him, "Because I killed him Zayn, it was my fault." I cried a bit harder, multiple tears spilling. Zayn walked over to me. "Listen to me, Elena. You did not kill Luke, you hear me?" He brought his thumbs to my eyes and wiped my tears. "Do you hear me?" He asked again. I shut my eyes and nodded.

"Let's go back inside, the boys will be here in a bit." I shook my head. "I need some more time alone." Zayn sighed. "Elena we are all grieving, just come back inside-"

"No, I want to be alone." I said cutting him off. He sighed but nodded, he turned around and walked back into the house. I hiccupped as the tears came down more and more. "Why!?" I yelled. I looked up at the sky, "Why did you take him!?" I stood there just staring. "Please, give him back." I whispered.

I felt hands settle on my shoulders. I turned around sobbing, "He's really gone." I buried my head in Damon's shoulder. "I know, I know." He wrapped his arms around me and held me closer. "Why?" I whispered. He looked at me sympathetically. "I don't know. But what I do know, is that we're going to get through this," I looked up at him. "How?" He smiled slightly. "Because we also do." I set my head back on his shoulder.

"Thanks Damon." He smiled weakly. "Anytime, Elena." He let go and walked back inside. I looked at the ocean once more before following.

"You really think we'll be okay?" I asked. He nodded, "Yeah, I do." I smiled but it was quickly turned into a grown as we heard yelling from inside the house. "Guys get in here quick, Rose is going crazy." I looked at Damon before running to the house.
