{3} In Another Life

A/N: So basically in this one-shot,  Archie is in court getting his fate declared. And this is how I imagine Archie and Veronica's goodbye to one another. Also, I have no idea how a court works, so if anything is incorrect to let me know. Enjoy!

Archie's friends and family gathered in the courtroom, praying that he would make it home that night. In the first row sat the people who truly cared the most for Archie Andrews, in which all were worried, but one person, in particular, seemed more than just that. Veronica Lodge was terrified, anxious, and most of all, doubtful. Veronica knew who her father was, a horrible person, who went to the extent to ruin his own daughters one source of true happiness.

She would never admit the truth that, deep down she knew Archie wouldn't make it out of this. But she forcefully allowed her self to hold onto what little hope she had left. Veronica and everyone's head turned at the sound of the court doors opening. And in walked the redhead, Archie, hands cuffed, face deprived of sleep, and a look of sadness overwhelmed his face.

Once he was sat in the court chair, he scanned the room to look for a certain person. And there she was, staring back at him. Her eyes were glossed, and her lips quivered. Archie just wanted to hug her, to tell her he was alright. But the best he could do from where he was, was slightly smile and nod his head. He tried to give her reassurance that everything would work out.

"Order in the court!" the county judge shouted, causing everyone to quiet their chatter. After hours, and hours of going back and forth between defensives and cases. The time came, to reveal Archie's fate. And all Veronica could think about was how truly compassionate Archie was. He had been framed, and all she thought about was how much he didn't deserve this.

"Archie Andrews, we have come to a decision." those words made Veronica tremble in her seat.

"We have decided that, if Mr. Andrews admits to the crime." the judge spoke clearly, "He will be offered an eight-year sentence to juvenile jail."

What... No.... Archie doesn't deserve this, he's too kind, too caring. This is all my fault. Veronica thought to herself, as the tears made their way to her eyes.

"I accept!" Archie shouted, grabbing everyone's attention, he knew that there would be no better option.

"Alright then, you are to be escorted, immediately!" The judge yelled. And as the guards made their way to take Archie from his chair, Veronica spoke up. "He's innocent!" She yelled as they started to walk him out, "He didn't do anything!" She sobbed. Everyone in the room had their eyes focused on the raven-haired girl as she pushed her way through the aisle to get to her boyfriend. "Stop!" She said as she grabbed the guards uniform, causing them to, in fact, stop.

"Y-you can't take him from me! Please! I'm begging you! He's innocent." She yelped as the tears kept escaping from her eyes, all the people in the room felt empathy for Veronica. And as Hiram Lodge watched as the events played out from afar, he couldn't help but feel regret. "It's okay Ronnie," he said trying his best to smile. She shook her head slowly at his response.

"You have two minutes, say you're goodbyes, now." the guards spoke, only taking two steps back. Veronica just stared at Archie in disbelief, as the tears streamed down her face. Words couldn't convey their feelings, so Archie embraced her, taking in the feeling of hugging her one last time. And as he pulled away he lifted her hair away from her ear, to speak. "In another life," he whispered, his voice cracking as his tears threatened to spill out.

"In another life, things are going to work out with us. There won't be parents or school, just us. There won't be anything to keep us apart" as Archie cried his words out, he was pulled away from Veronica. "In another life!" He shouted as they dismissed him from the courtroom. Leaving her standing there, alone, tears dripping from her eyes as she cried out, "I'll wait for you!"
