Chapter 16
“Jess?” Jake said.
“I’ll be right down!” I called. We had both drifted to sleep in my couch, watching a movie. Wed decided to have breakfast, and then go to the beach, but Jake, apparently, was going to leave me here. I quickly combed my hair, grabbed my bag and my phone and ran downstairs. Halfway through the stairs, I fell, and hit my head and back. I groaned out in pain.
“Jessie!” Jake said, running towards me. He scooped me up, carried me to the couch.
“Are you okay?” he said.
“I'm fine” I managed to choke out.
“You don’t look fine,” Jake said.
“Can I get some water?” I told Jake. He nodded and ran to the kitchen, and a minute later, came back with a glass of water. I drank it all, and felt a little bit better.
“Do you want me to carry you outside?” Jake said, preoccupied. Of course I wanted to.
“Sure” I said. He scooped me up again, and carried me outside. I snuggled closer to him. He hugged me tighter, and then left me in a chair. He took a seat beside me and took out his shirt. I stared at his abs.
“Want some?” Jake asked, smirking.
“Hey!” I said, slapping him.
“Hay is for horses,” he said, trying to keep a straight face. I laugh and strip down to my bikini. I caught Jake staring.
“You fancy some?” I said, smirking. He blushed and looked away.
“Want to take a walk?” he asked.
“Sure” I said, and we both stood up. We start walking in silence, admiring the beach. Jake reached for my hand, and our fingers intertwined.
“Just have babies already!” someone shouted. Ashley. I let go off Jake's hand and blushed. Jake laughed and then waved at her. She was sitting in a chair tanning herself. Cole was in the kitchen, apparently getting something to drink. Ashley waved at me, and ran towards me, and wrapped me in a hug. I hugged her back, and then she went to say hi to Jake. The guys went to the water, to cool off, and Ashley and me stayed in the beach, tanning.
“So, you and Jake, huh?” Ashley asked me. I didn’t respond, I just turned my back to her, so she wouldn’t see me blush.
“New York?” she said. It had been a while since someone called me that. I frowned, and remembered that I’d be back in New York in a little less than two weeks.
“I'm sorry” Ashley mumbled, when she saw my expression.
“Its okay” I said. She hugged me.
“Remember you can come visit and ill surely be visiting you too” she said. She was a great friend.
“So, back to Jake… what’s going on between you two?” she asked, wriggling her eyebrows. I laughed.
“Nothing, were just friends” I responded, as calm as I could. I'm sure I didn’t sound very calm.
“Yeah, whatever you say” she said, and slipped on her sunglasses.
After a while, my phone buzzed, and I checked it. I had 5 messages, one missed call, and one voicemail message. Turns out, Ellie had called. Her message said to please call her back. I dialed her number, and she quickly picked up.
“Jess! OMG we haven’t talked for years? How are you? How’s it going?” she screamed into the phone.
“Calm down, I almost went deaf” I said, laughing.
