Chapter 17

A date? What did max mean? I re-winded and thought about the conversation I had with max. This was definitely not a date. Unless he wanted it to be. Then it hit me. How could I have been so stupid? Max liked me. I’d never seen him as more than a friend, it was all he really was. I remembered how Jake told me to tell max about me dating Leon, and how he told me to figure it out myself. I jumped of my bed, combed my hair, and put on a pair of lime green shorts, and a white with pink crop t-shirt. I grabbed my phone and checked the time. 10:30. I had a bunch of time left. I headed downstairs and found Jake in the kitchen.

“Watcha doing here?” I asked him, grabbing some orange juice out of the freezer.

“I was bored. Want to do something today?” Jake said.

“I’m going out with max” I responded casually, but I still knew I sounded pretty weird. He laughed at my stunned expression.

“You mean a date?” he said.

“Yeah, if that’s what you want to call it. It’s not a date, really” I said. He laughed at me and nudged me, wriggling his eyebrows.

“Ooooh, you’ve got a date!” he said in a girly voice.

“Shut your trap!” I said, grabbing a toast and hitting him in the back. He moaned in pain.

“Oh my god, are you okay?” I asked him, realizing that I must’ve hit him too hard. I approached him, and he wrapped me into a hug.

“Gotcha” he whispered into my ear. I let out a playful laugh. He let go off me, throwing me in the couch.

“Ow!” I screamed at him. He laughed and I giggled. Oh Jake.

It was 12:13, and I was standing at the front door waiting for max. My phone beeped, and I flinched, grabbing it out of my pocket. It was a text from max. It said: ´be there in a minute´. He signed it with a heart. A minute later, max car strode into the driveway, and he signaled me to hop in.

“hey” I said, as I closed the door of his car.

“Jess, how are you?” he said, with a smile in his face.

“Fine” I said,

“you?”

“I'm good,” he said, smiling.

“Were are we going?” I asked, remembering this was supposed to be a ‘date’.

“It’s a surprise,” he said, a smile creeping its way on his face. It felt awkward, going on a date with max. He was like my best friend, my brother, my twin. I never considered him as boyfriend material. I cranked up the radios volume, and good time by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen came on. This song was awesome.

“Woke up on the right side of the bed, what’s up with this prince song inside my head? Hands up if you’re down to get down tonight, cause its always a good time” me and max sang. After a while, my favorite part came on.

“Good morning and good night, I wake up at twilight!” I sang at the top of my lungs. We both sang at the top of our lungs, screaming our heads off. That’s why I preferred max as a friend. He was so funny, and he was such a great guy. He was actually very much by me, and I didn’t know if I could handle him as a boyfriend. But maybe I was wrong. Maybe this was a friends date, or maybe he didn’t mean to really call it a date. But he had. Ugh, he was messing with my head, bad time. Finally, the car came to a stop, and max announced wed arrived. It was a small restaurant, apparently Italian, my favorite. A smile appeared in my face.

“This is my favorite place, I hope you like Italian” he stated.

“Of course I do, who doesn’t?” I said, bumping my hip with his. He laughed and put his arm around me. This was going to be a long day.
