My dad pulled me out of school early the day it all happened. He already had Billy in his truck, and didn't say a word about why we were leaving early. It was just lunchtime, and all of my friends were jealous of how early I was getting out. There was a long line of other cars to pick up their kids.

"Dad, where are we going?" I asked after getting into the truck. Oddly, a moving trailer was attached to the back.

"We're gonna go pick up some groceries and other stuff and go spend awhile in the mountains. How does that sound?" he asked.

"Dad we haven't even packed," I said. "I'm happy to be going on a trip, but we haven't told the school either. I don't have any clothes or makeup work. And not to mention, I'll be missing Driver's Ed lessons."

"I've already packed all of your clothes and shoes. They're in the truck bed. I don't think you'll have to worry about the school work."

"Were you preparing for the apocalypse or something?"

"Something like that, yeah," he replied.

He started driving and took us to the nearest pharmacy. The parking lot appeared to be abandoned.

"Adira, go in and grab all the medicine and first aid stuff we could need. And anything you would need. Soap and stuff wouldn't be a bad idea either."

"Okay dad," I replied skeptically, and went into the pharmacy.

The lights were on, but nobody was there. I even checked behind the back counter and in the storage rooms, but still, nobody.

I grabbed a cart, loading it with necessities and basic medicines, and brought it back to the truck. Dad got out and helped me load everything, and as soon as the cart was put away we left. Still, I was confused on why nobody was there.
