"Mommy, mommy!" Melody came running up to me, her arms outstretched. I scooped her up into my arms.
"Wait for me!" Billy yelled, tumbling in behind her.
"Mommy, will you tell us about the monsters you and daddy had to fight?" Melody asked, batting her eyelashes.
"Are you two sure you're ready to find out?" I asked. They both nodded vigorously.
"For starters, they weren't monsters. They were zombies," Roland said, standing in the doorway. I looked at him and he smiled. "They were gonna find out anyways."
"Well, we didn't fight the zombies." I said. "Instead, we were surviving. And it is a long, long story."
