This Is Why I Have Trust Issues

I slowly walked down the side walk towards my house, with my hands casually stuffed in my pockets, then right as I was about to walk up our driveway, I heard Barry call my name. I turned around as smirk reappeared on my face. He stopped right in front of me with a very panicked look on his face.

"How did you know I was the Flash?" He asked making me laugh and a confused look from him.

"Wait..... You're the Flash!" I said with fake excitement making his eyes widen in realization.

"You didn't know? But you called me....." He said, grabbing his hair frustratingly. 'I am having way to much fun with this!'

"The Flash! That is just a new term kids use nowadays." I said, quickly coming up with a lie he might believe, but it didn't seem to convince him. But before he could say anything, yelling erupted from inside my house. Both of our eyes widened, I quickly glanced down at my phone to see that the time was 3:00. I was supposed to be doing chores 15 minutes ago! I turned to Barry and tried to push him so he was behind the huge hedge in our neighbors front yard, but to no avail. Barry gave me a confused look, but it changed to horror the moment the door flew open to reveal my fuming mother.

"Avery! You were supposed to be doing your chores 15 minutes ago! Get in here you ungrateful brat! And who is-" My mom screamed at me but cut off the moment she saw Barry.

"Barry! You need to go NOW!" I urged him. Mom was mad but the moment dad knew, it wouldn't matter if Barry was a speedster, dad would hunt him down until Barry was dead. Now people might think I would be exaggerating, but they wouldn't have known them as well as I do. I know that they get all of their money stealing, and that they have trained with Deadshot. I was brought out of my thoughts the moment I saw a gleam appears in the corner of my eye. Time literally slowed down as a bang sounded, causing me to turn my head just in time to see Barry redirect the bullet before going back to stand in his previous place. The bullet clattered to the ground next to us, much to the surprise of my sharp shooter parents. Then their attention turned towards me, I guess they thought I moved the bullet.

"We told you the consequences if you ever were to talk or look at them! Now take your punishment or we will shoot you!" Mom said with her gun raised towards us, with dad now next to her with his gun drawn as well. I once again stopped time, but this time I turned to Barry, who gave me a very surprised look.

"I promise I'll explain later, but first you need to get out of here and come back in your Flash uniform. They can't know you're the Flash! Also, under NO circumstances are you to call Wally!" I said in the most serious tone I've had in a long time. His face turned serious before we slowed down time again. That is when Barry ran away at normal speed but the moment he got behind the hedge, he ran away at super speed.

"You brat! Now you are so going to get it!" Dad screamed at me as he marched over to me, causing me to give a small involuntary flinch at his threat. But before he could lay a finger on me, he was pushed to the ground by the Flash. Before I knew it, he had knocked out and tied up both of my parents to our light post in the front of our yard. Then he turned to me and started walking towards me, but something about the way he walked made the image of my father appear in my head. I started backing up trying to get away from my punishment that was sure to follow, only to back into a tree. He only got closer and raised his hand to hit me. I squeezed my eyes shut, preparing for the sharp pain that usually appears when he hits my face, but it never came. I slowly started opening my eyes only to be engulfed in a warm, comforting hug, instantly making tears flow down my cheeks in relief. 'I am free.'

"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" He whispered into my hair as he carefully held my head to his chest and rubbed my back with his other hand.

"I-I guess yo-you figured i-it out th-then." I stuttered as I started to calm down a little. His chest shook a little as he let out a soft chuckle.
