Don't Die This Time

This takes place two days after the last chapter

"You just lost our test dummy!" Joker said pouting a little.

"Dumb? Certainly! Your test? Heck no!" I said placing my hand on my hip as I pushed it out slightly, while ignoring a slight protest from Wally.

"Then I guess you can be our substitution." Scarecrow said before motioning to Harley to attack.

"Yeah, no thanks."

Flashback to 2 hours earlier

"I am sending the team to observe drug exchange in Gotham. I have an inside source that said they are transporting fear gas for Scarecrow. Usually Robin, Phoenix and myself would take care of it, but Joker and Harley Quinn broke out of Arkham last night, so that has to be my top priority as of right now. This is a covert operation only! No one is to know you are there. Do I make myself clear?" Batman said with his usual "I'm Batman. You better be scared of me" face. Before anyone could answer, he spun around and transported out of the cave.

"You all heard Batman. No one is to talk outside of the mind link. Now load up and let's get moving." Aqualad said before walking towards his room to gear up. We were all in civies since Batman just happened to come in as I was getting acquainted with the team members I didn't know as well, aka, kicking their butts at mario kart. Granted it was against 3 people who had no idea what video games were before today, but I still smoked Wally in a 1 vs. 1.

"Phoenix. Get geared up, we are leaving in 10." Robin shouted, shaking me out of my thoughts. I quickly ran off to my temporary room to change into my suit. When I arrived at the bio ship, the team was waiting impatiently for me.

"Finally!" Conner grumbled as he huffed and walked up the ramp to the ship. I raised an eyebrow in confusion gaining eyerolls from Robin and Artemis. Wally slung an arm around M'gann's shoulder with a smirk as they followed the grump up the ramp.

"What was up with him? Am I late?" I asked as I neared the group that was leftover. Kaldur crossed his arms but had no indication in his body posture or facial expressions that he was mad at me.

"You are right on time. We are just used to leaving a bit earlier, but you will get the hang of it." Aqualad said, as he grasped my shoulder with a comforting smile, before heading up the ramp himself.

"Wow! First official team mission and already making enemies!" Artemis said, slinging an arm over my shoulder as we headed inside as well with Dick behind us.

"What can I say! Not everyone will like my charming personality!" I said slinging an arm over her shoulder as she let out a chuckle at my comment. We entered the bio ship side by side, walking into Wally's flirting session with Miss. Martian. It looked so cool in here! Everything was so dark so the lights from the seats and controls lit up the room. I saw that M'gann was sitting in a big chair behind two pillars with balls at the end of them on either side of her, and that the front of the room made a U shape with six chairs sitting in front of keyboard-like controls.

"You can sit next to Robin and Artemis." M'gann said, cutting Wally off of his rant on how beautiful she was. He pouted before sulking off to what I'm guessing was his chair. I sat down in the front with Artemis right beside me on my left and Robin on my right a little behind me. Behind Robin was Superboy and on the other side was Kid Flash sitting behind Artemis and Aqualad sitting behind him. The moment the ship took off straps wrapped around my body in an X shape, making me panic a little. It only reminded me of being strapped to that awful punishment chair or the chair across from it, as I was forced to watch Wally get beaten. M'gann must have sensed my distrest because she instantly tried to comfort me in my head.
