Edward
It was the day of our appointment and everyone was on edge. We had gotten up a little late so we were trying to get everything together as fast as we could. Andy had told us the day we made our appointment that Louis may need to stay in the hospital for a couple days so we had tried to pack everything the night before but we are still teenagers so we forgot some things witch we were getting now. It also didn't help that all of us were thinking about what could happen today because even if we didn't say it everyone knew that we all were planning for the worse.
Once we got in the car to make our way to the hospital it was silent. Nobody wanted to brake the quietness of the car. Louis was cuddled into my side with both mine and Harry's hand on his small bump. Once we pulled up to the hospital Daniel found a parking space and turned the car off. We sat there for a moment working up the nerve to go inside. After a few deep breaths we made our way into the hospital.
When we were in the waiting room we located the check in desk and went over to let them know Louis was here. They had us wait only a few seconds before a nurse was coming through the door to take us to a room. They started him on fluids and a numbing drip. They also told us that he will be given a General Anesthetic
that will be given to him just before entering the operation room. We thanked her before she left and waited for louis to be numb from the neck down.It took around 45 minutes for him to be numbed so we pressed the call button to let them know that he was numb. When Dr. Andy came in to check he was indeed numb he said that it was time for him to go to the operation room. He gave him his General Anesthetic through his drip and transferred him with the help of a couple nurses. This left me, Harry, Daniel, and our mom in the room.
It has been around 2 hours and we were starting to get worried. Harry was pacing the length of the room mumbling to himself about something we couldn't understand. Mom and Daniel kept trying to get him to sit down and calm down but it didn't work and the longer it was before Louis came back the worse his pacing got. I couldn't blame him because I wasn't in any better state knowing that something could be wrong.
It was another half hour when they rolled Louis back into the room. This made us all sigh in relief knowing hr was okay. The nurse that brought him back was named Ellie. She told us that Dr. Andy would be back in to speak with us once Louis had woken up. It didn't take long for him to wake up. He blinked a couple times before settling on me.
"Eddie?" He said still a little drowsy. This made both Harry and I to jump up and rush over to him. I took his hand while Harry ran is fingers through his hair.
"Yes baby Haz and I ate both right here." I told him in a calm voice.
"Are the babies okay?" He asked
"We don't know yet angel. We have to wait for Dr. Andy to come in and tell us." Harry told him just as calm. Just then Daniel and Dr. Andy walked in.
"Great your up. How are you feeling?"
He asked Louis as he checked his drip with fluids in it."Good just a bit tired."
"Okay well that is normal but if you start to feel any pain let me know and we will get you some pain meds to help with that." Louis just nodded.
Dr. Andy walked over to the rolling chair the keep in the rooms for the doctors to sit on to be more comfortable as we talked.
"The procedure went okay the only problem we had was when we went to find baby B they tried to hide." He laughed a little making us giggle some as well. "Anyway we did find out why baby B hasn't grown. They hadn't been getting all the nutrients that are needed. This was making it weaker as time passed meaning that soon they would have died if we didn't fix that today. How we fixed that was a small implant into the umbilical cord to separate the nutrients so both babies get equal amounts." he gave us a couple minutes to process that information before he continued.
"We will still need to keep a close eye on them both to make sure that the implant is working and they are both growing. Mainly baby B."
"is there anything that we need to know about what could happen when they are born?" Louis asked
"Yes, the most common thing to happen with this is the baby, in your case baby B, because of it being so much smaller and how weak it was before the implant is that they will be born with a birth defect. This could range from simple as bad anxiety to heart problems or seizures. So be aware of that. Another thing is even though it only is a 2% chance baby B could be a stillborn. It is highly unlikely but can happen." Dr. Andy told us.
It was silent for a second before a nurse was rushing in and telling Dr. Andy that they needed him for an emergency in the waiting area. He was up as fast as he could before saying a quick goodbye leaving us to process everything.
