Spottedpelt's heart twisted with anxiety and uneasiness. The night sky was dragged over the sky with stars dotted over it, shadows enveloping ShadowClan's camp. Spottedpelt couldn't see the moon through her den and she was too nervous to peer out. Why is it so dark in our camp? Most of the cats still left around the sandy plain were asleep, but some were awake and alert for the returning cats.
No other cat knew about Vinestar's plan. Spottedpelt had no one to talk to about the Gathering. She nervously shuffled around in her den and fidgeted nervously with her bedding. She anticipated for her fellow Clanmates to return. She felt her heart pound faster.
They have to return soon. Spottedpelt lay her head onto her paw, her ears standing up and attentively listening to every rustle. Every beat of her heart seemed to make her feel more and more uneasy.
Suddenly, the thunder of paws echoed through the clearing, and WindClan cats pelted into the sandy open sky. Spottedpelt felt terror as she noticed a fresh wound on Vinestar's shoulder blade. The other WindClanners had terrified, angry, and aghast expressions.
Other Clan cats were emerging out of their dens, staring at the sandy plot with alarm. Vinestar clamored up the Wind Stone, yowling for a Clan meeting. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here under the Wind Stone!"
Spottedpelt crept up to the edge of the stone, looking up anxiously at her leader. Vinestar quickly glanced at the her, before dismissing her with a roll of his eyes. Spottedpelt wouldn't put it past her leader to ban her from his Clan meetings as well. She prayed he wouldn't; though. She needed to hear what had happened at the Gathering no matter how terrible it may of been. But the urge to turn away and hide in her nest while covering her ears also competed with her feelings of curiosity.
Vinestar's tail lashed with impatience as he waited for his fellow warriors to arrive at the Wind Stone. Spottedpelt could tell that dawn would approach soon, and that Vinestar seemed timed by the soon arrival of it. Willowheart ventured toward the stone, settling herself next to Tigertail as she waited for Brokenpaw to limp over. Brokenpaw arrived, looking with concern at Vinestar's wound. Molepaw, Gingerpaw, Cinnamonpaw, Buzzardpaw, and Tallpaw had all arranged themselves next to each other. The warriors who went to the Gathering stood next to the rock with their eyes widened, neck fur risen, and fur bristling.
"Get your claws ready!" Vinestar yowls. "We are attacking ShadowClan at dawn." At that, Spottedpelt felt her stomach flip over in terror. Shocked mutters buzzed around the open sand moor.
"What?" Copperfrost gasped. Many warriors shared terrified glances with their Clanmates. In the middle of the situation, Jayheart stood with a narrowed-eye expression as he gazed at the gathering of cats.
"Why?" Buzzardpaw demanded. His voice was drowned out by arguing and shocked remarks from the Clan.
"How will we even be able to defeat them, Vinestar?" Fiercetalon asked.
"We should teach them a lesson!" Amberstripe spat. Spottedpelt's hackles rose at her mother's comment.
"What happened out there, Vinestar?" Tansybranch meowed, wide-eyed. She looked sympathetic; ready to comfort any cat who needed it.
"No!" Emberpaw wailed. "We can't attack now!" Fiercetalon quickly padded over, licking the ginger and black furred she-cat's fur tufts along her head. He whispered something in her ear, and she seemed to exhale a breath to try and calm herself down.
"Silence!" Vinestar screeched, interrupting the ocean of murmurs. Jayheart padded up beside him onto the Wind Stone.
"The least you could do is let your leader speak!" Jayheart sneered. He bowed his head to let Vinestar continue. "Go ahead."
