Wetkit blinked open her eyelids as the morning sun attacked her eyes. She suppressed a playful yawn, wriggling over in her nest. She vigorously prodded her sister, Snowkit, in the neck. Snowkit grunted in response.

"Wetkit?" Snowkit moaned in an irritated tone. She twisted her head around and squinted her eyes open.

"Come on! Maybe Smallpelt will let us out of-" Wetkit started briskly before she felt a set of paws jab her spine. She squealed in surprise, veering around and knocking weight off of her.

"Got you!" Weedkit hissed. "Slow mole!" Wetkit growled in response of her brother's insult. She pounced up and landed on him. Weedkit scowled and exhibited a squeak of surprise, contorting around in a wrestling bundle of fur.

Paws battered Wetkit's pelt. She jerked around, aiming for Weedkit's flank. She felt energy dart through her. I have to prove to Snowkit that I can defeat Weedkit! As she was about to deal a well-aimed blow to Weedkit, she felt his paws pin down her head. She hurled a cluster of kicks towards her brother, feeling satisfied as he lost his grip.

Wetkit realized it wasn't all her doing. Smallpelt was hauling Weedkit back by the scruff, a bothered look cemented on her face. She gently set down the tom, hissing, "I'm a mouse if Lightstar would make you all apprentices when you come of age with this behavior."

"Sorry," Wetkit moaned. She didn't take any more heartbeats to ask, "Can we go outside of the nursery?"

"Please?" Snowkit chirped, not giving Smallpelt enough time to reply. She scurried up in front of her mother, a pleading look on her expression.

"Not right now," Smallpelt finally responded. Her three kits drooped their ears and their expressions emerged into a pout. Wetkit grunted angrily. Why not? She can't keep us confined to the nursery forever!

Wetkit peered outside of the structure of knitted leaves and tree limbs. She saw a blue-grey tom gulping down a fish. Other RiverClan cats were travelling out of camp, some being appointed for going on patrols. She suddenly felt teeth bite on her tail.

"We're not allowed to go out!" Snowkit insisted. Wetkit turned back to her with an annoyed look.

"I'm not!" Wetkit hissed. "I'm just looking." Smallpelt's eyes were narrowed, and she kept supervision on the two kits. Weedkit was creating a small structure of leaves and twigs out of boredom.

"Ugh," Weedkit moaned, knocking down his structure with his tail. "Mom, why can't we go outside?"

"I don't want you all being rambunctious outside," Smallpelt meowed in response. "You need to prove to me you can behave. If not, then you'll have to stay here." Seriously? Ugh! Why can't you just let us take one pawstep outside?

Smallpelt curled into her nest. Weedkit arranged himself next to his mother, shutting his eyes as a purr formed in his throat. Wetkit lashed her tail. You all are no fun! She watched indignantly as the nursery became silent.

"Hey, Wetkit," Snowkit whispered. "I have a dare for you."

Wetkit pricked her ears. "What is it?" she asked ambitiously.

"I dare you," Snowkit started in a rebellious tone. "To go to Sharpclaw's den..." This sounds like a challenge already. "And put a thorn in his nest." Wetkit blinked at her. But if Smallpelt found out, she would probably burn my pelt off with lectures about "obeying the rules." Well, I suppose better than staying here all day.

"I accept!" Wetkit squealed. "But you have to come with me."

Snowkit hesitated. She blinked at her sister. "But I dared you!" she protested. Hmm. I don't want to make her think I won't take a challenge. I am not a whiny kit! And I'm going to prove to my littermates how clever and strong I am.
