Wetkit's tail excitedly twitched behind her, elated squeaks coming from her jaws. "It's time! It's time!" she squealed. She seemed to bump into every obstacle placed inside of the nursery, until eventually she rammed into her brother.
"Watch where you put your paws," Weedkit snapped, his tail bristling out defensively. Wetkit gaped her jaws in a hiss, whisking around and padding towards her mother.
Smallpelt carefully groomed Snowkit's neck fur, lifting her gaze as she noticed Wetkit travelling over. Wetkit bounded over, enthused, and her pelt bristling ecstatically. It's really time! It's really, really time!
"I'm going to become an apprentice!" Wetkit exclaimed, her light blue eyes bubbling with excitement. Smallpelt viewed the light gray she-cat, her expression loving. Snowkit's elated expression grew even stronger as she noticed her littermate.
"Yes, dear," Smallpelt mewed softly, a smile carving across her face. "I'm very proud of all of you." Weedkit padded up beside Wetkit. Smallpelt released her grip from Snowkit, and the white she-kit stumbled out of her grasp.
Snowkit's fur was stroked up from her mother's grooming. Wetkit chuckled. It was barely dawn, however Smallpelt's kits were already trembling with excitement for their ceremony. They all bounced around the nursery with excitement roaring through their veins.... well, most of them. Weedkit stayed under the overhang of the nursery, rolling his eyes and carefully stroking his tongue over his paw.
"Is it time yet?" Wetkit whined impatiently. Weedkit shot her a narrowed-eye look.
"Only a bit longer," Smallpelt responded softly, shaking out her pelt and arising from her nest. "Some cats already seem awake."
"Let's go!" Snowkit urged, her fur bristling and tail quivering vigorously. "Let's go out to the clearing!" Smallpelt nodded in agreement, her gaze reflecting with sorrow and love for her three kits. Wetkit hastily straightened her fur with careful licks. I must look perfect when I go out there!
Weedkit exhibited squinted eyes, his tail respectfully floating into the air. Wetkit copied, her tail curling elegantly and extravagantly padding towards the clearing. Snowkit was doing the opposite, practically tripping over herself. As they emerged into the glade, many warriors pointed with their tails towards them. In particular, the other apprentices were the most enthusiastic.
Sharkpaw was bouncing up and down. Wetkit realized the black and white she-cat's gaze was fixed on her. As she was about to gape her jaws to greet the she-cat, a figure rammed into her. She was thrown to the ground, earth littering her pelt. She recognized Snowkit, who's expression was apologetic.
"HEY!" Wetkit screeched, anger reflecting in her eyes.
"Sorry!" Snowkit squeaked, her voice guilty. Wetkit stammered onto all of her feet, a growl suppressing inside of her. "Sorry!" Snowkit repeated, her ears pinning back to her head.
"Watch where you're going," Wetkit growled, sifting through her pelt to expel any specks of soil. Smallpelt came behind her three kits, her teeth clenching together with concern.
"Come on," Smallpelt ordered to Wetkit. "We need to clean you up." I can clean myself up! Frustration boiled inside of Wetkit. She felt Smallpelt's jaws clamp around her scruff, hauling her into the air and back towards the nursery.
The familiar nursery scent flowed into Wetkit's nostrils. She spotted Lilypond, who seemed to have not spoken a word before, quietly sat in the corner. Her belly was plump enough where her kits would definitely come in the next moon, Wetkit noticed.
"Congratulations," Lilypond meowed half-hoarsely. She noticed Wetkit, whose coat was cluttered with soil. Her expression changed to a confused look. "Er.. what happened?"
