It was almost lunch time when we made our way towards the exit of the police station. The statement was taken quickly, of course because I'm Rachel Watson.

Aaron was right. I needed him. It's been almost 5 years since I visited a police station and it did bring back a lot of disturbing memories. And I don't think I could have done it without Aaron holding my hand.

I was partly angry at myself for becoming so weak to need Aaron with me and partly satisfied that Aaron was with me.

I really need to get my head straight.

After reaching Aaron's car that was parked outside the station, I turned towards him. He was looking in his phone.

"Aaron.", I called him to get his attention.

He looked up," Yes?"

"I wanted to say something to you."

His expressions changed to panic and he put his phone in his pocket to hold my hand," Are you okay? Do you need something? Are you hurti-"

"Jeez, calm down West. I'm absolutely fine."

His face relaxed," Then what is it?"

I smiled," I just wanted to thank you."

He raised his eyebrow in confusion.

"Thank you for what?"

"For coming to get me yesterday when you absolutely didn't have to. For making me soup and forcing me to have it. For being my side whole night and calming me when I had a nightmare, and I know it was more than five times. For coming here today with me and helping me to go through this because if you weren't here, I don't think I could have done it. Thank you for being there for me Aaron."

I was on the verge of crying when I finished speaking and I had to look down to avoid Aaron's eyes.

There was a moment of silence before Aaron held my face in between both his palms and made me look up, right into his eyes.

"Listen to me Rachel, and listen very carefully.
You never have to thank me for being there for you. I didn't come to get you yesterday night because you needed help, I came there because I wanted to. And I'm always gonna come to get you whenever you're in trouble, not because you can't deal with it alone but because I want to be there for you. And the thing you said about not being able to do it without me, that's bullshit. There is nothing that you can't do alone."

He paused for a moment and then spoke again.

" You are the strongest woman I've ever met Rachel and I'm proud of you. Even if I wasn't there yesterday to get you and today to accompany you, you'd still be okay. It was absolutely possible for you to do all these things alone and be okay. Having me by your side just made it easy, not possible. Do you get the difference between the two?"
