y/n's pov.
one of the graders passed up their room for me to stay in for the next few days before they sorted what was their next move. it had been two days in the pit before they finally got me out and still, there was a constant pair of eyes watching me.
later on my third day back at the glade newt had been the one to escort me to the kitchen. all eyes landed on me, stares burning into the back of my skull. newt had his hand on my back walking me forward when a boy whistled. I clenched my fists tightly and started to push against newt's palm, wanting to turn back to give him a peace of my mind. but the pressure of newt's hand increased and we continued forward.
the two of us sat at the table accompanied by the other keepers. I looked at the all briefly by my eyes lingered on minho. his head was pressed against the wooden table. "min you alright?" newt questioned, picking up on minho's mood too.
"why did alby tell us all he was the first? made us feel bad for him." he scoffed, taking a large bite of his sandwich. "what a shuckface." he mumbles, mouth still full of food.
"he probably assumed I was dead, a worthless story to tell." I shrugged, picking up my own sandwich and taking a bite.
"can't blame him." minho chuckles sarcastically.
my leg flies towards his under the table, colliding with it harshly. "ow." he yelps in pain, "I'm a runner you know greenie, you better watch it."
and if I don't." I provoke with a sly grin plastered on my lips. "gonna throw me in that pit again, or better yet, back into the maze please."
"yeah, we could do with some peace and quiet around her." he snaps back, keeping his joking tone.

days passed quickly, minho and I seeming to get on each others nerves more and more by the day. I had become a runner, although there was a constant vine tied around mine and whoever I was running with's waist at all times.
newt thought it would be nice to be in my 'home environment' which I thanked him eternally for. it seemed they knew as much as I did about the maze. all the sections, the patterns, all of it.
I sat on the cliff, legs over the edge, one of the unfamiliar runners beside me due to the vine tied between us when I heard my name being called.
"minho! thomas!" I call back, waving them over.
I stood up suddenly to greet the two when my legs gave in and I slipped off the edge. "y/n!" a voice yelled, echoing throughout the maze. the boy tied to me struggled against the force pulling him down with me and I soon saw his body begin to shift towards the edge too.
my mind went fuzzy, I couldn't see, everything was a blur. in that moment I thought death had finally got me until a strong, familiar grip had a hold of my wrist, yanking my body back up to the edge.
fuck. a large weight was pulling me back down. the other runner hung bellow me, struggling for his life. his body began to slip through the loosened ivy around his waist.
he fell.
but I thought my eyes were deceiving me as I had just seen him fall a couple of feet before disappearing into thin air.
"I think I just found our way out."
