"I said what?" Lauren screeched.
"You said no" Cody repeated simply, as if it was no big deal.
"No!" Lauren gasped
"Exactly." Cody agreed with a small smile.
"That's not what I meant and you know it!" Lauren snapped back.
"Calm down, I didn't do anything. I'm not the one who said no." Cody reminded her.
"Yea, your just the one who killed him then caused me to tell him no." Lauren said harshly.
"And I don't think you heard me right, I more than likely said no to something else." Lauren added.
"I heard you right, you said no. I didn't say it for you; you did." Cody sighed.
"Whatever! You did this!" Lauren argued. Then she started to think... She wanted to tell Cody no. Could it have been a delayed no? That didn't make since! she should have said yes last night then told Cody no...but then again would she really say no to Mark? If he asked her right then she didn't know what she would have said, and why didn't she just tell Cody no yesterday? If Cody was telling the truth that Mark was hiding something, then it had to be Something big.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have told you I heard, its just I didn't want to act like I didn't hear it. I don't lie. I might not always tell the whole truth but I don't lie." Cody sighed taking her hand into his. He gently played with the engagement ring that still encased her finger.
"What was Mark hiding?" Lauren asked in a soft whisper, ignoring his statement.
"That I cant tell you......but I will. You'll hate me more I fear but I'll tell you." Cody promised and he would. Someday.
"Why did you kill him?" Lauren asked then looked up to Cody for the reply she didn't wasn't to hear.
Cody took a deep breath.
"Because-" He started then stopped.
"Because?" Lauren asked. Why wouldn't he tell her? It couldn't be worse than what she was already thinking.
"I can't tell you." Cody finished. What? Lauren had to know! It wasn't fair that he wouldn't tell her! She contemplated the thought as she muttered some very unladylike words under her breath.
"What was that, love?" Cody asked; luckily for Lauren, not understanding her.
Lauren just closed her eyes and layed down in deep thought.......
She had just enough time to open her mouth again when the nurse came in. Lauren mentally pouted, upset that she didn't get to give the lovely comeback she came up with.
"Good news..." The nurse said happily.
"Because your doing so well and showing no signs of trauma from... the incident. You will be dismissed this afternoon." the nurse announced.
"So? Today?" Great, Lauren thought. So much for the one day chance she planed on giving him.
"That's wonderful!" Cody said happily.
"Yea, just super." Lauren added sarcastically.
The nurse paid her no mind and headed out of the room. The large hospital door shut with a click then Cody and Lauren looked back into each others eyes.
"Looks like we'll have more time than I thought." Cody and Lauren said at the same time, then stared at each other in shock.
How did he know she was going to say that? Something wasn't right. Something about him just seemed... Off.
