Alistair x Cousland Warden
~~~~~~~~~~
It was over. The terror that was threatening to wreak havoc upon all of Ferelden, to eventually consume all of Thedas, now lay dead upon the roof.
The 'old god' was limp and lifeless, almost as if they had never roamed the sky with their ferocious wings. But they had. The dragon had destroyed many people's homes and lives, indirectly, but still ruined many dreams.
No one truly remembers the exact details of that night, but if you ask her, she will tell the tale of that night.
It had started to rain. Rain and thunder and lightning, they all began at once, disturbing the quiet peace there was supposed to be after the defeat of the ancient creature.
Amarah Cousland, she was soaked to her underclothes as she fell to her knees. The young girl, who just over a year and a half ago was dressing up in ball gowns and chasing her beloved mabari from the kitchens, had delivered the final blow. She had done it. She was the one who saved Ferelden.
She fell to her knees after the beast had hit the ground. And admist the rain and thunder, the pounding of feet and water on the roof, and the beginning of celebration from all of the country's troops, Amarah cried.
Tears fell down her face, first one droplet, until it was impossible to tell whether or not it was rain or tears flowing from her eyes. The ones who noticed were her beloved party members, but the only one who mattered at that moment was the man who came sprinting towards her, the only man who mattered to her.
"Maker, are you hurt?! Tell me where it hurts and we can have Wynne take care of it, I--" Alistair was cut off from what he thought was a beautiful sound, that turned out to be Amarah laughing. It was so rare to see her laugh, but whenever she did, sweet Maker it made Alistair's heart just melt inside of him.
"Its over." The dark haired girl looked up at Alistair, smiling as she cried. "Its finally over, I can't believe it." Alistair stared at her, not saying anything as he just watched her. It was a full minute until, finally, he smiled as well.
"Its all because of you. Because of you, you amazing woman." Alistair sat next to her and put his arms around her, whispering softly into her ear, "I love you, Amarah." She hugged him back even tighter, blinking her dark brown eyes to get the tears away, but to no avail.
"I love you, King Alistair." The man froze at those words, but gained his composure back somewhat quickly for him. Amarah was just about to close her eyes, until she jumped out of her love's arms, looking around frantically.
"Where is Morrigan? I-I need to tell her..... To tell her..." She looked in every direction, but couldn't see the mage anywhere on the roof. "....She's gone, Alistair." The light haired man flicked his eyes about, seeing that those words were indeed true. At that moment, he felt almost more anger towards her than before. Morrigan had been Amarah's closest friend in these long months, and the reason they were both standing there. Why had she left? Why did she leave like this?
"She is gone. Does the idea of her being near me repulse her that much? Am I really that bad in bed?" Alistair chuckled a bit, trying to lighten the mood, inevitably failing his attempt. He sighed, looking into the brown eyes he came to love. "Look, we're going to find her, okay? No matter how long it takes. I will do anything to make her come back so you can say goodbye."
"Alistair, she's the reason we're alive. She's the reason we have a future together. But she won't come back. Morrigan said to not try and find her. I just.... Wish I could have said thank you. Thank you for letting me be happy with my big loof Alistair." Amarah smiled, tears flowing down her tan face once again. Alistair brought her closer to him, putting his lips on hers, soon pulling away and hugging her.
"Thank you for letting me have my queen, Morrigan."
If you ask the queen for her story, she'll end it with the words 'I never saw my friend again'. She didn't try to, the queen respected that Morrigan wished to never be caught.
If you ask the queen about how she feels now, however, she'll look over at her husband the king, a smile on her face as he reads to their youngest son, and say "My friend is why I'm here. My friend is why we're both here. I will always pray for her, for her to see all the good she has done in this world. I love her almost as much as Alistair."
Wooah boy, here is my first ever Dragon Age one shot ((or writing in general)).
I kept thinking I was butchering Alistair so much, but its a more dramatic kinda thing.
I also wrote this really late at night when I couldn't sleep
This is honestly a Morrigan x warden but if you think of it like that its kinda sadder than it already is
Hope you guys have enjoyed this piece of crap ;)
