Chapter 31
[Eboni's dream]
I wiped the moisture from my forehead and sat up-right, taking my phone from the bedside table to check the time. 3:47.
I was in mine and Aaron's room in the lake house. The room was pitch black and freezing cold. One of us must have left the window open.
I hesitantly looked to my right to look at Aaron but he wasn't there. On his side of the covers the top corner was folded outwards where he had left it getting out of the bed probably. I know what you've been thinking: together five minutes and they jump into bed together. Right? But in all fairness, we've shared a bed before when we were younger and I stayed overnight with Jason (in fact he's probably saw me naked before). Of course, Aaron couldn't bare the fact that Jason had a friend over so he played with us during the day, even though he was older, and slept in Jason's room with us at night.
I peeled the covers off my body and swung my legs over the side of the bed so I could stand up. I checked the bathroom to see if Aaron was in there, but it was empty, so I pulled on pyjama bottoms from out my case and tip-toed downstairs to the living room. The hall was engulfed in darkness and silent apart from a few quiet snores.
I heard the low murmur of a TV as I got closer to the living room and saw a few flashes of light dancing on the floor beneath my feet from it. I continued to walk towards the TV, thinking that someone would be sat on the couch opposite from it. A gun shot ripped through the air before I reached it and sent my pulse racing through space. My mind began to spin as bile rose to my throat. A gun shot?
'There's someone in this house' my mind repeated over and over to me faster than Chris Hoy on a bike. I wanted to be frozen on my spot but somehow I had lost all control of my legs. They inched forward a tiny step at a time without my consent on doing so. It felt as though my body was being controlled by someone other than me and there was nothing I could do to stop my feet from moving towards the sound of a bullet being pushed out of a gun and whirling through the air obnoxiously.
My eyes spotted a figure on the ground a few feet away from me. It was the body of someone and they were laying face down. I almost shed a tear at the anticipation of a dead body lying in front of me so why on earth was I compelled to walk towards it?
I jumped slightly as I heard movement from behind me and was forced once again to move my legs and turn round. Was this the end? Was I going to die? A shadow made itself visible in front of me and it's features resembled Luke but were harsher, more pronounced and terrifying. He had a gun in his hand and the site of it caused a drip of sweat to fall from my forehead.
My eyes tore away from the monstrous face before me and whipped around to the direction of sound behind me. The body laying on the floor was not deceased. The young male had turned from his stomach to his back and was slowly sitting up and wincing from the pain which follows after being shot. It took me a few more moments to realise that the male in front of me was Aaron. Luke had shot him. I tried to scream but as the words licked sorely up my trachea and were on my tongue patiently waiting to escape, my jaw involuntary clamped shut, imprisoning my cries for help.
My shoulders began to shake, followed by my knees as I stood there horrified, frozen to the spot. This was the time where I didn't want to be petrified to the spot, but wanted to run in fear for my life and possibly the last few seconds of my sanity which was burning short like the wick of a candle.
Another gun shot tore through the atmosphere and burst through the skin in between Aaron's eyes, allowing gravity to pull him back to the ground. The sound burned my eardrum and silent screams threatened to leak through my lips. Why me? Why Aaron? Although it was an automatic tactic of killing someone to aim for the forehead, Aaron wasn't dead. His body spasmed as he lay helplessly on the floor.
