don't know how I made it home. Flashes of Jaidon's dismembered body and Melody's blood soaking my shirt filled my vision. I couldn't see because of the tears in my eyes. Harmony was nowhere to be seen.
Dad explained the whole story when I got back, still sobbing and muttering about Melody. I didn't listen to any of it, just cried and missed her. Tasks like climbing the stairs were suddenly monumental, taking 5 minutes to climb a step. It was like I died with Melody. The door to my room was wide open. The curtains wide open and the window gaping, where she'd climbed out. It was almost dawn.
The sheets still smelled like her. Her floaty black top still crumpled on the floor. I picked it up and held it to me, sobbing harder. Oh, Melody.
On the note I had left her, asking her out, was a reply, written in her neat, swirly handwriting.
'Will you go out with me?'
'Yes.
I love you, Jasper.'
