Chapter Eleven:

After the whole episode with my Mom I was beat, I could barely keep my eyes open and I had to drag myself up the stairs. When I was finally in my room I didn’t bother to change out of the purple sundress I had put on for dinner as I fell down on my bed. My head smashed into the pillow that smelt the most of Ace, I sighed and grabbed the quilt that lay neatly folded by the corner of my bed before covering myself with it, closing my eyes I fell asleep.

-*-

I felt like death the next morning, crying always made me feel that way. Mom let me stay at home, ordering me to stay in bed and take some medication that would sooth the raging headache that was pounding against my skull.

There wasn’t anything interesting on T.V today so my day consisted of three naps, endless flicking through channels and eating premade chicken soup that I only had to re-heat in the microwave.

It was around three o’clock when the doorbell rang, thinking it was Ace I skipped to the door and pulled it open. My massive grin faltered when I saw who was standing on the other end of the door. Wyatt stood with his backpack slung across his right shoulder, his hair windswept and he wore his dashing smile that made every girl weak at the knees.

“Well you look fine, why weren’t you at school today?” Wyatt asked, pushing past me and into my house. I closed the door behind me and crossed my arms over my chest.

“Sure, come in, make yourself at home.” I said sarcastically, moving towards the T.V remote and clicking the red button. The T.V screen went black and the room was cast in shadow. Today had been a cloudy day, the sun hidden behind the huge bundles of fluff.

Wyatt glanced at the half empty bowl of chicken soup, he glanced up at me and raised a thick eyebrow, “Sick?” I nodded my head.

“You could say that.”

The atmosphere was silent for a few minutes before Wyatt spoke again.

“I see you’re getting very close to that Ace guy,” Wyatt stated lowly, his face clouded over as if he had thought about something horrible, like his favourite football team losing the finals or something like that. I remember this one time where Wyatt had invited me over to watch a match and threw a filled soda can at his flat screen when the opposing team scored the winning touch down, I smiled fondly at the memory.

“What are you smiling at?” Wyatt asked, looking at me as if I had grown six noses. I shook the memory from my head, the Wyatt I used to know back then was a whole lot different to the Wyatt I knew now, this one wasn’t my Wyatt.

I started my way to the stairs when I tripped on a discarded pillow, reaching for something to keep me upright I grabbed onto Wyatt’s forearm causing him to come crashing after me. Laying on my back on my couch, with Wyatt on top of me was probably one of the most awkward moments I had ever experienced in my life. Even that time when I had a crush on him freshman year and we had to play spin the bottle at a party and we had to kiss. No, this time we were both older and our hormones were going bizarre.

Wyatt grunted and I groaned when his full weight fell on me, my breath was knocked out of me and I struggled to get it back, his knee between my thighs and his hands supporting his upper body on each side of my head. His warm breath was hitting my cheeks, the minty smell invading my nose.

“What are you doing?” I asked in puffs, the air slowly returning to my lungs.

“What I should’ve done freshman year,” He whispered before leaning down and pressing his lips gently to me. My eyes widened in shock, why was Wyatt kissing me?

I moved my head to the side and his lips moved against my cheek, “Don’t fight this Skye, you know you want to,” He whispered, he pressed a small kiss to my cheek before returning to my lips. He nipped at the lightly, trying to push his tongue through my still lips.

“What the hell?!” A voice exclaimed, Wyatt pulled away in the blink of an eye and fell on the floor I sat up and looked to where the voice had come from. I expected it to be my Mom but no, it was much worse, it was Ace.

-*-

“Ace let me explain!” I cried out, my feet pounding against the porch steps. Ace had thrown a few punches at Wyatt but Wyatt was too fast and blocked them all, after they had thrown each other a handful of insults Ace took off, leaving me with a smirking Wyatt. I ran after him, hoping to explain what had just happened, I don’t know why I was feeling the need to prove to him that I wasn’t cheating, I mean we weren’t even together!

“Ace!” I screamed when he unlocked his car, I ran the rest of the way to him and pushed his half open car door closed. He snapped around to look me in the eyes, his eyes were furious. The dark green colour was swirling, looking like the grass on the forest floor blowing wildly in the wind. They were captivating.

“What do you want?” He ground out, his jaw set. My heart dropped to my feet at his cold tone, i had seen Ace angry, I had seen him soft and gentle but now, now he was furious.

“What you saw back there wasn’t what you think it was,” I told him, my voice just above a whisper. To my surprise Ace laughed, a cold laugh. I furrowed my eyebrows and took a step back, my heart breaking with every second that went by, Ace stood completely still his face betraying no emotions.

“You’re really going to try that with me?” Ace asked, disbelief coating his voice. He shook his head and opened his door again, for a second time that day I slammed it shut.

“Do you think I would kiss him? After everything we’ve been through?” I shouted, my voice raising after every word, “You know how much I like you, yet you doubt me at every turn! Why Ace? Do you have trust issues, did a ex-girlfriend break your heart so badly that you can’t trust anyone?” The clouds broke and the rain came pouring down, I was soaked almost immediately but I didn’t care.

If I thought he was furious then, he was definitely pissed now. He grabbed my shoulders and pushed me against the side of his car, he pressed himself against me.

“You know nothing about me,” He seethed, the raining flattening his hair against his forehead, his green eyes even darker.

“You’re right,” I spat, I didn’t know where my sudden surge of anger came from, “I don’t know you and by the way you’re acting I think that’s a good thing. You’re not turning out to be the person I thought you were!” I exclaimed, pushing against his hold.

“Get away from me!” I shouted, pushing him again, he stumbled a little but then he was erect again.

“I’m disappointed,” My voice was softer, all the energy I had consumed with being angry showing the stress on my body, “I thought you were different,”

For a split second I saw his mask crumble, hurt shone through his eyes but before I could question it the look was gone.

“I thought you liked me,”

“I thought so too,” He stepped to the side releasing me, I shot forward away from him as if his skin was an open flame.

“I’m glad to see you’re okay.” Were his last words before he got in his car and sped down the road. I felt numb as I walked back into my house, Wyatt sat by the counter in the kitchen, he jumped up when he saw me.

“Come here,” He opened his arms and I fell into them.
