Chapter Nine:
“Why’d you do it?” I asked Wyatt as he pulled up next to my house. We hardly spoke two words to each other, the radio filled the silence the whole ride here.
“Drive you home? Because I wanted to.” He replied, getting out of the car and walking over to my side. He opened the door and waited until I was out then closed the door again.
Together we walked up my stairs and awkwardly I twisted my house keys around my fingers, I glanced nervously at the door. The last time we were both here, Wyatt had pushed me up against the wall and threatened me.
“I meant, the whole breaking the friendship thing.” I whispered, I peeked up at him and saw him looking down sadly at me.
“It happened in the moment, if I could go back in time and act differently I would but I can’t. The damage is done.” Wyatt said, reaching out to put his hand on my shoulder. I flinched away before his hand came into contact with it.
His eyes hardened and for a split second I thought he was going to hit me but instead he shook his head and a sad smile formed on his lips.
“You know all I do is for you to be safe.” Wyatt told me, walking towards me until I was pushed up against the wall again.
“I’ve always been there to protect you and because of one little prick I can’t even get it through your head that he’s bad news!” Wyatt spat out, slamming his fists on either side of my face.
“You don’t know how many times I have dreamt of this; you against a wall, me protecting you from all the bad things in the world,” He muttered, his right hand coming up to curl against my throat, gently squeezing.
How did I never notice that my best friend was crazy?
“Don’t you think it’s time to go home?” I asked Wyatt, hoping my distraction would work. Wyatt shook his head and lowered his head before he placed a kiss on my cheek.
“Sk- Oh.” Ace’s voice broke into my mind that was clogged with pure fear, fear that Wyatt was going to snap and snap me into tiny little pieces.
Wyatt growled and whipped around, his huge body frame not letting me see Ace’s face but I could pretty much guess what it looked like. Betrayal.
“What are you doing here?” Wyatt sneered, going into a fighting stance.
Ace looked bored, “I could ask you the same. The last time I checked this wasn’t your territory.” Ace said, walking up to Wyatt and pushing him to the side. I was pleasantly surprised when Wyatt staggered to the side, freeing me. Ace took a hold of my hand before glancing at my face and giving me a bad boy grin, my insides fluttered and my knees felt weak.
“Watch your back,” Wyatt spat before he walked down my porch steps and speeding down the road, nearly crashing into another car. Beside me Ace chuckled and grabbed the keys from my hands and unlocked my front door, pulling me in, he closed the door. He locked it quickly and crushed me to his chest.
“Thank God you’re okay,” He whispered into my shoulder, his arms were wrapped around my waist and his head buried in my neck. And for the moment I let myself relax in his embrace, trying to forget all the horrible things of today.
