Estella watched with a hint of jealousy as Harry Potter was surrounded by Gryffindor fans on the Quidditch field. She was happy that he had caught, actually rather swallowed the snitch, she thought ruefully. But still she wanted to be out on the pitch, feeling nothing but air between her and the earth. Flying was her one freedom at home, her parents had enchanted a small field for her to practice on where she wouldn't be seen.
"The ugly prat cheated," Draco grumbled from behind Estella. "He didn't even catch the Snitch properly."
"Why don't you go do it better then?" sniffed Tracy.
Estella shook her head at her friend before making her way from the Slytherin stands to where Hagrid, Hermione, Ron, and Harry were walking. She quietly crept up behind them and peaked into their conversation.
"I'm telling you it's Snape," Harry insisted hotly.
"Now Professor Snape what?" Hagrid grunted.
"Harry has the brilliant idea," Hermione began sarcastically. "That Professor Snape is trying to steal something."
"And he tried to get past that ruddy dog to get it on Halloween," Ron added, looking revolted.
Hagrid dropped the log of wood he was holding. "How'd you know about Fluffy?"
"FLUFFY?" Estella clapped her hand over her mouth as she gave away her position.
"Ahhh!" Ron screamed. "Blimey Penny, don't do that!" He shook his head angrily.
"Sorry," Estella apologized sheepishly. "Who's Fluffy?"
Hagrid looked at her uncomfortably, his gaze flickering down to the serpent on her robes. Hermione seemed to take note of this. "Oh Hagrid, this is Penny Blackwood from Slytherin," the busy haired girl send Estella a smile. "She's one of my best friends."
Hagrid seemed to relax slightly, though his eyes still darted around nervously. "Nice to meet yeh Penny."
"Wait, that dog," Harry looked repulsed, "has a name?"
"Of cours' he does," Hagrid looked offended. "He's mine but I lent him to Dumbledore to guard the.." the kids looked at him expectantly. "Never mind that," he grunted. "That's between Professor Dumbledore 'nd Nicholas Flamel."
"Oh there's a Nicholas Flamel then," Harry raised an eyebrow mischievously. Hagrid looked like he wanted to throw his log against the castle wall.
"See ya Hermione, have a good Christmas," Estella gave her friend a hug. Around them the Great Hall was decorated for the holidays. Giant pine trees filled the corners while lights glimmered in every direction. Beside them, Ron and Harry were fully immersed in a game of Wizards Chess. Hermione rolled her eyes at the boy's antics.
"Merry Christmas Penny, keep a close eye on those two," she snorted. "They'll need it. And.." she lowered her voice. "Keep searching for Nicholas Flamel."
Ron's head snapped up. "We've looked a hundred times!" he groaned as one of Harry's knights attacked his bishop.
Hermione looked at Estella carefully. "Not in the restricted section. Happy Christmas," she winked at the three before trotting off.
"We've been a bad influence on her," Ron gaped as the girl left.
"You mean you two have," Estella retorted with a grin. "I'm innocent."
"You stunned a troll," Harry pointed out dryly.
