"Wait Crouch thought YOU cast the dark mark?" Estella's eyes widened.
"Yeah," Harry mutter hotly.
"Like the Boy Who Lived would want to suddenly become Voldemort's best friend," Ron rolled his eyes from where he sat on the Hogwarts Express.
Estella nodded in agreement, movement catching her eye. Draco passed by the compartment door and he meet her gaze for a brief instant. Her eyes narrowed. Her parents had warned her about the Triwizard Tournament set to happen this year, and with Draco's father, she was sure he knew all about it as well. To her exasperation, the blonde Slytherin stepped into the compartment with a sneer.
"What're you doing here Malfoy?" Ron spat, standing definitely.
"I could ask you the same question Weaselbee," Draco replied coolly. "You're dirtying up the train."
Ignoring Ron's furious expression, the boy pushed his way forward toward Ron's trunk, turning to hold up what he found.
Estella bit her cheek to keep from laughing. They were horrid dress robes with lace cuffs and moth eaten thread. If Ron knew what they were for he would be horrified.
"Well won't you be the spectacle of the night Weasley?" Draco raised an eyebrow with a smirk. "Are you planning on entering?"
Ron scowled, obviously confused, but too proud to admit it. "What're you blabbing about Malfoy?"
Estella fixes Draco with a warning stare but he just snorted. "I should have known you would have no idea. But then again your family isn't very far up in the Ministry are they?" With a final smirk at a scarlet Ron, Draco strolled off to join Crabbe and Goyle.
"Why that ruddy.."
Ron was cut off as Hermione looked at Estella carefully. "You know what he's talking about don't you?"
Estella bit her lip in surprise, she didn't realize she had been that easy to read. She grew uncomfortable under the trios stares. "I have a good idea," she admitted. "But you will find out soon enough." The Slytherin gave a wink.
Ron groaned. "Bloody hell, I hate secrets."
Estella watched in amusement as Dumbledore stood and announced that Quidditch would be cancelled this year.
"WHAT?" Fred and George clamored, banging there goblets on the table in protest.
Dumbledore raised his hands with a jovial smile. "I can assure you.."
He was interrupted by a crash as the doors to the Great Hall slammed open. Estella jumped and watched in shock as a man stalked into the room. His face was marred and mangled with scars and he had a wooden leg, which trumped against the stone as he walked, making the students give little jumps. What was most noticeable however, was the fake eye he had strapped around his head. The bright blue eye swung around the hall and Estella stiffened as it briefly rested on her. She recognized this face from the many records she read on Azkaban prisoners. Alastor Moody, the auror.
"Sorry I'm late Albus," the man grunted gruffly as he settled in his seat. "Nasty weather."
"Quite alright Alastor," Dumbledore beamed as he turned back to the students. "I would like you to meet your new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Alastor Moody."
Moody gave a sharp little nod at the students applause and took a swig from the flask he pulled from his coat.
"What is that?" Tracy scoffed.
Estella raised an eyebrow. "Firewhiskey."
The two girls looked at each other a burst into hysterical giggles.
Draco looked at them in disgust. "You're bloody idiots."
Dumbledore cleared his throat. "I have exciting news. This year Hogwarts will be hosting the Triwizard Tournament." At this murmurs burst out around the hall. Estella rolled her eyes as Draco sat back smugly. "Many of you have heard of this competition of a lifetime. There is a thousand gallon prize for the winner." The whispers grew louder and Dumbledore chuckled. "However after much consideration the Ministry has decided that the age requirement is at least seventeen."
Chaos erupted at this as the students complained.
"WHAT?" Fred was indignant. "That's rubbish."
"We turn seventeen in April!" George argued, his ears going red.
Dumbledore raised a hand calmly and the students' voices dropped. "Representatives from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons will also be attending to compete and will arrive shortly. I ask that you make them welcome for their stay at Hogwarts." He clapped his hands and food appeared on the tables. "Dig in."
"Finally," Tracy moaned. "I thought he was never going to stop blabbing."
Estella snorted as she watched Crabbe and Goyle eagerly stuff their faces with potato. It was good to be back.
