"Congratulations, out of all the elemental schools across the realms; you have been enrolled into Silver Crow Academy!" Quinn shrieked so loud that her empty bottle of orange juice froze along with the black wooden bed pedestal it was on.
A man in a freshly pressed suit snuck his head in through the door behind her. "Ms. Solomon," he called frightened, "is everything alright?"
Quinn lunged into the old man's arms. "I got in, Smithers! I'm a Sliver Crow student!" She let go of him before he could congratulate her. "Where's mother and father," she shrieked excitedly.
"I believe that Dr. Solomon left for a conference in Zodiac some time ago and Mr. Solomon didn't say where he was going but he was in hurry to get there."
Quinn's excitement was drained but her face was neutral. "Thank you, Smithers. That'll be all." The butler gracefully exited the room while Quinn was left to herself. "Same shit different toilet," she murmured to herself.
Dr. Solomon -Quinn's mother- studied star gazing in the capital city, Zodiac. Star gazing was more than just astronomy in the Cosmic. Star gazing was the top paying job in the entire Cosmic and Dr. Solomon is the head of department in astrophysics.
As more Mr. Solomon, he owned Clockwise Industries a billion astron company that specializes in building weapons for both military and school use. The company also supplies arsenals around the Cosmic in the event of a creature from the Terra getting out. ('astron' is the currency used throughout the Cosmic Society, symbol: Å)
Regardless of what her parents did for a living, Quinn's parents are power hungry workaholics -as well paid as they were. They've never ever made time for her: not her first words, first steps, starting grade school, harnessing her water powers, her parents weren't even here to hear that she got into the same high school where they met!
With a heavy sigh, she turned to see how the excitement drained from her face in the mirror. Her radiant, light skin still had the glow that all celestial beings are born with. Her blond and dyed-in-turquoise-highlighted hair was in a ponytail with her tips that touched the bottom of her shoulder blades. Her hazel eyes were clearly drained from her lack of sleep but what was completely noticeable about her was her figure. Quinn was incredibly skinny; she's model-tone.
She let out another sigh then picked up the cream colored envelope and took out the requirements list. She sat on her bed, with her heart in her stomach as she read through the parchment. "Maybe this is a sign that I'm not meant to be at home. After all, Silver Crow is on the far side of Scorch. What do you think Freya?"
Quinn turned to a china white owl that was perched on the bookshelf that formed a whole wall in the room. The owl's fine material began to crack until it shattered leaving a living white owl in its place. The owl soared from the high shelf to next to her owner's lap.
"I need a coffee," Quinn thought out loud as she stood up with the tiredness settling in. "You coming?" As she left her room, the owl took flight and soared in front of her the whole walk.
