Quinn and Phoenix sat on the sofa eating energy bars while Aria petted Freya and Jasper on the floor. Raquel sat on a single-seater couch stuffing books into her bag breathing nervously. The tangible uneasiness in the air grew as the three juniors grew restless.
'Can the bell just ring!' Raquel roared mentally at her impatience. 'It's like they're intentionally pissing on us.' She stood up and placed her bag next to her seat before starting to pace. "Why the hell do they do this to us," she snapped. "Not even my dad's this menacing!"
"It's called 'first day prep.'" Quinn stated while tossing the wrapper into the bin across her. "The teachers give the freshmen a few extra minutes to hype themselves up for the first day so our school day starts fifteen minutes later than the other classes."
"It feels like the ten second countdown before Black Friday," Raquel hissed.
Aria nodded as Freya nibbled on her finger. "Or those five seconds on a YouTube video advert." Quinn and Phoenix eyes each other confused before turning to their other roommates. "Black Friday is the start of the festive shopping season and YouTube is a video-sharing website."
Phoenix stood and walked towards her with sly smirk, "hmm. Earthly sh-" her words were cut off by a shrieking bell.
Laughing, Raquel grabbed her bag as she rushed to open the door. Quinn picked her bag as Freya soared onto her shoulder. Aria stood up as Jasper scurried into a pocket of her blazer.
"Last one down is a Terra reform student," Aria chuckled as she sprinted down the hall while poor Jasper bounced viciously in her gray blazer.
Phoenix raced after her, "you're so on."
Raquel was right in line with Phoenix as the elevator door started closing with Aria and Jasper calmly inside. As for Quinn, she could barely jog with the excess books in her bag. The doors re-closed with Aria, Jasper -and now- Phoenix and Raquel inside the elevator.
A gush of wind blew the doors apart as Quinn almost tripped over the unseen carpets at the end of the hallway. Aria hands were controlling the wind that kept the doors parted. Quinn stood up as the hallway began to fill with other freshmen students then scurried for the elevator with Freya resting on the floor in front of Aria.
"Thanks," she whispered to the air user.
"We can't let the billion-astron heiress embarrass herself on the first day," Aria stated kindly. "We can't let each other embarrass ourselves. Agreed?"
Phoenix and Quinn nodded in agreement while Raquel gave a questioning expression. "What about the seniors and this whole 'initiation' BS? They said they're going to treat us with disrespect."
Quinn scratched an eyebrow before stating: "the important thing to remember is that they want us to feel like we have no dignity, value or identity. Which means that if they ask 'what's your name' the answer is 'I have no identity'. I recommend we avoid the seniors as much as possible, though."
"Agreed," all three hissed in fear. The elevator doors parted as the four girls lightly chuckled.
They exited the dormitory building and walked across to the utility building. The ten-leveled ivory building was incredibly plain compared to the rest of the school -at least the outside was. At the very top stood headmistress Cade six other people were watching as the students entered either individually or in groups.
Once all the freshmen students were gathered on the roof, headmistress introduced the six people alongside her. "These are your elemental heads: Emily Signer; head of water, Nathaniel Dean; head of light, Jason Campbell; head of earth, Daniel Grace; head of darkness, Tyler Safers; your head girl and head of fire and Graham McMahon; your head boy and head of air. If any of you are caught using your elements without their supervision, the consequences will be severe!"
