Nicole’s POV
It’s been a week since I left London…since I left everyone. I’ve barely left the house; so much for getting a new job and finding a place of my own. My mum is worried about me, and my dad is insisting that I go next door and tell everything to Jay. Since I haven’t gone out at all since I’ve been here, Jay has not seen me, and she doesn’t know that I’m home. To be honest, I don’t know if I can face her. It’ll just make everything seem so real. It’ll make me realize that Lou and I are actually over. Well, the lack of calls and texts from him sort of already made me realize that. Actually none of them have bothered to call or text me. Did they seriously forget about me that fast?
“Nicole, sweetie get dressed. You are going next door whether you like it or not. We’re having dinner with Jay, Dan and the girls.” my father said, not even bothering to knock before he entered my room. I rolled my eyes and gave him a ‘do I have to’ look. “Now.” he demanded, becoming more stern with me. That’s when I knew he meant it. When my dad gets mad, it is not a pleasant sight. So I did as he said and got out from under the covers. He exited my room, giving me my privacy. I stripped out of my joggers and Union Jack t-shirt, and slid into a high-waisted skirt with a black peplum shirt. When I finally finished getting myself together, I dragged my lifeless body down the stairs to the kitchen, where my parents impatiently waiting.
“After dinner, you and Jay are going to talk privately about what happened. Do you understand me?” my father said, his mood still irritable. I nodded in response, and with that we headed next door. My mum rang the doorbell, as we waited to be let in. Lottie opened the door. Her face was priceless when she saw me standing there.
“Nicole!!” she chirped, surprised to see me. I don’t think she even found it odd that Lou wasn’t with me. She ran into me, and I wrapped her in a hug.
“Hi lottie.” I replied, putting my best sincere smile on for her sake. I haven’t really found anything to smile about the past week. She let us off the porch and into the house, as she called to Jay that we had arrived.
“Mum! John and Chloe are here! And Nicole is with them!” she shouted into the kitchen. Jay appeared seconds later, greeting my mum and dad before me. She was definitely surprised to see me, but a little more curious as to why I was here without Louis. “Hi sweetheart, what are you doing back in Doncaster?” she asked, pulling me into a hug. I hugged back tightly before answering.
“Um, can we talk after dinner? I’ll tell you everything.” I informed her. She gave me a concerned look, probably already guessing half of the problem, and then nodded. She put a smile back on her face as Fizzy and the twins came into the room. Fizzy ran over to hug me first.
“Nicki! I missed you!” she beamed, and I smiled again. These girls always made me smile, I truly loved them as if they were my own sisters. “I missed you too Fiz, so much!” I chirped back. The twins greeted me the same way; practically jumping into my arms and hugging me tight. I set them back down, and Dan was the last to join us in the living room. Dan was Jay’s new boyfriend, and he was a nice guy. We re-located ourselves into the dining room where we had some friendly banter while we ate. I savored every laugh and smile from Jay, before it was time for me to tell her everything. I knew she’d be devastated.
Jay and I excused ourselves from the table, and went out on the porch. We took a seat on the porch swing, and she stayed silent, waiting for me to say something.
“Jay, I just want to tell you beforehand that I do love Louis. And I don’t want you to hate me for what I’m about to tell you.” I said, a little nervous to actually begin my explanation.
“Honey, I could never hate you. But please tell me what happened.” she begged, giving me a reassuring smile before I continued.
“Well to make this a whole lot easier to understand, Lou and I are sort of broken up…” I paused, letting her take in that new information. She seemed a bit shocked, but not as much as I expected her to be. She stayed silent and I continued. I told her about that first night we got home from the hospital; when he went out with Ed and came home hammered. And how I ran out when we got into that fight. And then I told her how he didn’t even touch a drop of alcohol for a whole week…until I left him alone for that half hour. I told her everything; and she listened to every word not interrupting or becoming angry once. When I finished, she finally spoke.
“Wow,” she paused, still letting it all sink in. “I am so sorry sweetie. You didn’t deserve all of this on top of losing the baby. I just wish there was something I could that would fix things between you and Louis.” she stated honestly. I was relieved that she wasn’t angry with me. She was more sympathetic than anything. The tears that had become a routine thing since I left last week, started again and Jay pulled me into a hug.
“Me too.” I admitted. I miss Lou, I honestly do. But I can’t go running back to him after I did this. I know I hurt him badly, and I can’t forgive myself for it. “I miss him. But I think this was just for the best.” I informed her, trying to convince myself that it was true more than I was trying to convince her. She held me out at arms length, and wiped a few tears from my face.
“Honey, I know you’ll be fine. You’re a strong, bright girl, and you’ll be back on your feet in no time.” she reassured me. I was thankful that I could be more than civil with my exes mother. Probably because she was like a second mum to me, but that’s beside the point. Maybe everything will be okay.
Harry’s POV
It’s been almost a week since Nicole up and left, and Lou was not taking it well by any means. The lads and I had to stop him several times from getting on a train to go see her. We have not let him contact her either. I know she’s probably taking hard as well, and any contact from him will only make her hurt worse. None of us have had any contact with her either…but there’s a reason behind that. We weren’t telling Louis, but we all planned to go and see her in Doncaster. We think she needs a good surprise after all of this. I heard Louis coming into my room, so I shut my laptop before he could see that I was purchasing 8 train tickets.
“Hey boobear.” I said as I saw him slump into my room. He was really taking this hard.
“Hey Haz.” he replied simply.
“You okay?” I asked, mentally slapping myself after I said it. Of course he’s not okay.
“I’ve been better.” he stated sarcastically, but it was not his usually humorous sarcasm, it was more depressing. “Why won’t you let me just call her once? I need to hear her voice…I need to know that she’s okay.”
“Because Lou, it will only make you more upset, and it’s not going to make her come running back to you.” I informed him. He needed to know the truth; even if it hurt. His eyes were dull and his face was in a permanent frown. I hate to see him like this.
“I don’t know how to go one everyday without her. Knowing that I could still have her if I didn’t make the mistakes I made. If I could’ve been a better boyfriend…she would still be here.” he said, sounding more broken than I’ve ever heard him.
“Lou, people make mistakes; no one is perfect. And everything happens for a reason…it can only get better from here. I promise you it will stop hurting soon.” I said, trying to reassure him.
“I hope you’re right Harry. ‘Cause I’ve honestly never felt this horrible and pathetic in my life.” he said. I didn’t even say anything I just pulled him into a hug. I hate seeing both of my best friends like this, and not being able to do anything about it.
