One moment Harry is in One Direction, the biggest boy band of the moment, with millions of screaming fans everywhere he goes. He gets to travel the world with his best friends and Louis-the boy who completes his heart. Then he wakes up in a hospital bed and everything’s changed. One direction are 3 months into their temporary break which looks like it’s going to become permanent and he hasn’t talked to or seen his best friend in over 3 months.
“Just give Mr Styles a bit of space, he may be suffering from some confusion due to the head trauma.” The nurse informed the three teenage boys and Mrs Styles who hovered anxiously around Harry’s bed; grief shrunken eyes with big bruises below them testament of their sleepless nights since Harry’s accident.
Harry blinked open his eyes sleepily and threw an arm out to grab onto Louis, missing the warmth and comfort of his body. The bed was cold, like Louis hadn’t been sleeping in it. That was weird. They nearly always slept together. He opened his eyes properly and saw a white ceiling...that was odd, his ceiling was blue. Where was he!? He tried to push himself up on his elbows but his head hurt like hell and felt like it weighed 10 tonnes. What had he had to drink last night? His flopped back onto the bed and his eyesight blurred for a second before focusing on a women, in a green nurse’s outfit...
“Harry, you were in car accident and you hit your head pretty hard, you’ve been in a coma for a week.” Harry saw her lips moved and heard the words but he didn’t understand. What was she talking about? Where was Lou?
“I don’t understand...” Harry muttered, his voice hoarse and unrecognisable from its lack of use. Niall moved into his sight range and he sighed in relief.
“Mate, you were in a car accident last week and hit your head for they’ve been keeping you in a coma for the past week. They said you might have to some...confusion when you woke up.” He turned to the nurse, questioning if what he’d said was right and she nodded. Niall patted Harry’s shoulder gently, “Glad you’re back Haz, we’ve missed your curly head.” He cracked a small grin and stepped back to let Liam and Zayn though, their utter relief painted across their faces.
“You gave us a scare Harold, please try not to almost die again.” Liam offered him a wobbly smile and Harry was inherently grateful for Liam-he always held them all together.
Then he spotted a figure lurking behind the boys and he’s face lit up in a smile. “Mum!” He cried, his voice becoming even more hoarse with emotion. She smothered him in kisses until Harry was almost laughing and held onto him tightly,
“I’m so glad you’re alright baby. I was so scared.”
“I’m ok now, mum, I’m ok.” He glanced around the room and saw his sister wasn’t there. “Where’s Gemma?”
“Oh, I should ring her! I sent her home last night.” His mum gave him a last delighted kiss and ran out of the room to call his sister. Harry glanced around the room again, his eyebrows drawn in confusion.
“Where’s Lou?” And with those two words, the smiles that occupied his friends’ faces dropped. Harry became even more confused. Niall was opening and closing his mouth like a goldfish; Zayn was wide-eyed staring alternatively at Harry and then the nurse and then Harry again; while Liam had buried his head in his hands. “What’s going on? Where is Lou?” Harry demanded, becoming slightly scared at his friends reactions.
“Liam? Niall? Zayn?” They all avoided his eyes. There was a tense silence before Liam leaned over and whispered something in the nurse’s ear. She looked over at him with pity, “Amnesia is fairly common with head trauma victims.”
“Amnesia?” Harry croaked, “What are you talking about?” Harry was so confused: he just wanted Louis.
“Harry, you are Lou haven’t spoken in 3 months.” Liam broke the news, grasping Harry’s hand tightly.
Harry shook his pounding head, his eyes wide with disbelief. “What are you talking about?”
Liam sighed heavily and Niall stepped forward, his eyes downcast. “You are Lou had a fight Harry about 3 months ago and we haven’t seen him since. We’ve talked to him on the phone sometimes but you guys haven’t spoken.”
Harry felt like he’d been hit by a truck-ironically. This news hurt far more than his head...it couldn’t be true, he would never stop talking to Lou. “I don’t-I don’t understand. I would never stop speaking to Lou. I love him.”
The boys looked between each other uneasily, “Harry, we-“
“No!” He interrupted, “Lou is my best friend, that wouldn’t happen. We can’t live without each other! This doesn’t make sense!” Harry started to get agitated and his tone of voice started to get louder. The nurse eyed him concernedly. “I just wouldn’t-nothing could break us apart. Why are you telling me this? Louis would never do this to me...I don’t understand.” Harry muttered, his head in his hands.
Zayn placed a hand on his shoulder, “After your fight and the end of the band, you just couldn’t be together, so he left. “
“THE END OF THE BAND?!” Harry screamed, his eyes bulging and a vein in his temple throbbing.
“Harry you need to calm down, this is not good for you.” The nurse tried to placate him but he threw her hand off him.
“Don’t tell me to fucking calm down! I just found out I don’t have a band and my best friend hasn’t fucking talked to me in 3 months and no one will tell me why!” And then Harry broke down, hiccupping and crying into his bed sheets.
“Where’s my phone?” Harry cried and Liam brought it out of his pocket with fumbling fingers and practically threw it at Harry-anything to stop him crying. The other boys stood around awkwardly, Louis was the one who dealt with Harry’s tears. They were lost without him.
Harry scrolled down the contacts quickly, searching for something. Someone. His lip started to quiver, “Why isn’t Lou in my contacts?” He lifted his eyes up to his friends and they stared into his broken face.
“You deleted him from your life, you didn’t want any reminders of him anymore.” Zayn muttered, regretting the words once Harry started crying again.
“I don’t understand, I would never want him out of my life. I want Lou. I WANT LOUIS.” Harry’s crying started to get uncontrollably again. “I just want Lou,” Harry cried, the tears streaming down his face. “I want Boo back.” Harry’s heart-rate started beeping like crazy as he cried harder, none of the boys able to console him at all.
The nurse eyed the heart-rate monitor with concern, “Is there any way you can bring this Lou into the hospital? It’s not good for Harry to be this worked up so soon after he’s woken up.”
“We can try, but Louis barely picks up our calls anymore either.” Zayn muttered, dragging a hand through his lifeless hair.
