Tia's POV
We drove back to Preston's place in the darkness of night. The large moon glistened over us as he drove us back. He pulled into the garage and closed it.
"Might I ask where your parents are?" I ask.
"They're on a business trip. They own a resort," Preston says taking off his helmet, "is there certain time wittle Tia needs to be home?"
"Count me as curious," I say, "why'd you want to hang out with me anyways? Don't you have male friends to accompany you?"
"You said you wanted an adventure," he smiles grabbing the door open.
He held it open for me as he went into the pantry grabbing graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate.
"Ever had s'mores?" He asks.
"Who hasn't, it's especially good when there's snow," I say.
"Snow?" He asks.
"It's white powdery water-..."
"I know what it is, but snow? Where in Hawaii?" He laughs.
I shook my head.
"I'm just visiting from Colorado," I say.
"You're graduated?" He asks me.
"Yes, just last year," I say.
"I did too, not really sure what I want to do yet," he says going outside with a blanket.
The cool Hawaii air brushed over us as we sat on an outdoor sofa. He placed the blanket over my shoulders and handed me a metal stick with a marshmallow on it. He put wood down as he took out a lighter and lit a paper on fire. He placed it under the wood quitting fluid on top. He walked over the table grabbing a marshmallow and letting it graze over the flames.
"What do you want to do after high school?" He asks me.
"I'm going to CU Boulder," I say, "I'm studying architecture and engineering."
"Wow, do you like building?" He asks.
"Yeah, I'm good at engineering and drawing," I smiled, "maybe you should go to college."
"I'm not so sure. I think I'm going to go to community," he says.
As soon as I knew it, my marshmallow was a toasty brown with a gooey inside.
"Can I have a graham cracker?" I say as he grabbing two.
He peeled it off my stick putting chocolate on the marshmallow. He handed it to me as he makes his.
"Mmmmm," I say happily eating it.
He snickers at me eating it. I roll my eyes as he sits next to me. The fire blazed in front of us. The fire dried my clothes and skin. It was nice. Felt like the camping trips I went on with Marina and Jack when we were in middle school.
"Tell me more, you seem interesting," Preston says.
He's hazel eyes were rich in color and could look through my chocolatey brown eyes.
I sigh as I sit up.
"What do you want to know?" I ask.
"What's it like in Colorado?" He asks.
"Well, during fall the leaves on trees change color and fall off the trees, then during winter it's cold and snowy and finally spring is when everything grows back. It snows every now and then in the spring," I say.
"What about summer?" He asks.
"Well, it's hot in the summer and we get thunderstorms. I haven't stayed in the summer for more than a week," I say.
"It's not very wintery here," Preston laughs.
Preston's POV
"When my sister passed away, my parents and I weren't really the same. My mother and father moved passed it getting tattoos of her name on their arms," I say, "Lea."
Tia just looked at me understandingly. Not pitying me, but understanding.
"I know how hard it is to lose someone," she says.
My eyes met with hers.
"I had someone special in my life who had passed away too," she says glancing at her watch, "it's 1:30 AM."
"Adventure is still out there," I say.
"It is," she smiles.
"Let's go," I say getting up placing my plate down and putting out the fire.
"But it's late," Tia says.
"You scared of the dark?" He laughs.
"You make me lose my fears," I laugh.
