"Don't know anyone!" Willow sang under her breath as the elevator doors hissed open. She exited and moved toward the booths on the far left side of the room. She slid into a booth by herself. She put her backpack down next to her and began to scan the menu. She, Angel and Gup and all walked to the Cafeteria together but they'd separated when they entered. The Cafeteria floors were in alphabetical order so Willow was on the second floor, while Gup and Angel were on the first. Demigods were on the fourth floor and hunters were on the third. Each floor looked like they'd been arranged to fit what each dorm was used to. Or at least, for what Willow had seen on the first floor and then on her floor, that appeared to be the case. The first floor had been arranged in four long tables and looked very medieval. Willow's floor was arranged like the cafeteria in the training center from the Capital. Willow finished inputting her meal then hit the submit button on the table and the holographic screen flickered off.
"Willow Foster?" A voice asked and Willow jumped. Peeta Mellark was standing in front of her table with a stack of papers in his hands.
"Yes! That's me!" Willow stammered and Mister Mellark smiled disarmingly.
"Good to know. I have your roommate sheet here for you." Willow smiled back and accepted the paper he passed to her.
"When I find your roommate, I'll send her your way." Willow smiled and Mister Mellark moved away. Willow looked down and began scanning the information on the page. It was fairly basic, just the girl's name, district (Demigods: Cabin, Wizards: House), age, and year. Willow sat the paper to the side and was digging through her backpack for her book when her table split open and a new panel slid up, carrying her food. Willow grinned and reached forward when a blonde girl stopped in front of her table.
"Willow, right?" Willow blinked and nodded.
"Yeah... are you Velvet Marie?" The girl smiled softly.
"That's me." Velvet had short blonde hair, pulled back on one side with a hair clip and a soft face. She was dressed in a silk white short dress with flowers across the shoulders and down the chest. Her piercing blue eyes studied Willow as she sat down in the booth, fixing her skirt and crossed her ankles.
"So, we're going to be roommates? That's cool. Is there anything I should know about you?" Velvet asked, glancing down at the delicate silver watch on her left wrist. Willow shook her head.
"Not much that I can think of. I have a pet that's fairly high maintenance but not really much other then that." Velvet shot her a curious look.
"What sort of high maintenance are we talking about?" Willow shrugged, trying not to blush.
"Gina is a baby giraffe." Velvet's eyebrows shot up and she leaned forward.
"She's a baby... giraffe? Like," She raised her arm and waved it above her head, marking off a height. "Giraffe, giraffe?" Willow nodded and Velvet sat back. "They let you have a pet giraffe? Now I'm kind of regretting not asking for the snow leopard I wanted." Willow laughed and Velvet raised an eyebrow. "I'm being serious." Willow quickly coughed, looking down at her plate.
"Right, sorry. Anything I should know about you? Or living with you?" Velvet shook her head.
"No. I don't have anything you should know. I mean, I have a lot of makeup and clothing and such but," She waved her hand dismissively. "What girl doesn't?" Willow frowned slightly but nodded.
"Yeah." They were both silent before Willow thought of something. "Oh! Do we share any classes together?" Velvet pulled out her schedule and the girls exchanged.
"Doesn't look like it." Velvet commented then wrinkled her nose. "You're taking Self Defense with Mister Barnes?" Willow smiled.
"Yeah! I can't wait!" Velvet handed Willow's schedule back.
"It's it like, dangerous though? Because he's that Winter Soldier Guy?" Willow blinked and slowly put her schedule away.
"No... I don't think so... I think he's gotten passed that." Velvet shrugged and stole a fry off of Willow's plate.
"Oh well. I mean, it's your class but I wouldn't risk it. That's why I took Gymnastics. Plus, the guy who teaches Gymnastics is pretty cute, so that didn't hurt." Willow nodded, laughing awkwardly.
"I'm sure." Velvet shot her an approving look.
"You know, you aren't that bad. I was a little worried when the form said you were from district Three. But you are that awful. I mean, you have a symmetrical face. If I took a meat cleaver down the center of your skull, I'd have matching halves. That's very important." Willow blinked.
"Thank you?" Velvet waved the statement away, grabbing another fry off Willow's plate.
"It's no problem. But that's not my job, right? That's the Capital's thing!" She laughed, loudly and shrilly, and Willow just chuckled nervously. Other tributes from the surrounding tables glanced at them and Willow felt her face heat up. Velvet stopped laughed and looked like she was about to continue talking when her phone went off. "Oops. Gotta go. It was nice talking to you!" Velvet climbed out of the booth, scooping up her backup and flouced towards the Elevator were Violet was waiting for her with her arms crossed.
"Bye!" Willow called after her then slumped into her booth. "That was weird." She mumbled under her breath than shuttered, trying to rid her skin of the feeling of ants crawling over her. She looked down at her food, which was now cold and felt her stomach roll. "Waste of a good 3 dollars." She muttered and she hit a button on the table and two small square holes opened up. Willow scraped the food into the hole that was labeled incinerator and then set her dishes into the other hole. As she was gathering up her stuff to leave, an idea hit her and she turned the group of students at the booth behind her. "Do you know if we can use the menu to order snacks?" One of the boys nodded.
"Yeah, I think so. I think under the sides option, there are snacks. Like vending machine stuff." Willow smiled, gratefully.
"Thank you!" The boy nodded.
"Was the girl you were sitting with your roommate?" Willow winced.
"Yeah." The group looked sympathetic.
"That sucks. I guess the odds weren't in your favor." Willow shook her head and smiled wanly.
"I guess not." She slid back into her seat and pulled up the menu again. Following the boy's instructions, she went to the sides and snacks menu then began to scroll through all of her options. Grinning to herself, she selected several snacks and waited for the table to split open with her food. Instead of splitting open though, a panel on the side opened and shot out a small tray with all of the snacks Willow had chosen. Shaking her head, Willow scooped the snacks into her bag then headed towards the Elevator. When the doors hissed open on the first floor, she found that Angel and Gup were waiting for her.
"Fun lunch?" Gup asked as they started back across Campus towards the History, Language & Magic Center. Willow shook her head.
"Not overly." They raised their eyebrows in questions. "You wouldn't believe me."
