i listened to my heart like it was the last thing id hear for a long while. it sounded like a lost cello & an even lonelier piano. i listened for the end like i wanted it to happen. like it was a train stop to someplace better. someplace golden. my ears strained to keep up with its slow beats, my fingers tapping against the frozen glass of my vehicle window. (look at all the smudges) was it me that was actually lost? or was it just some way of relating to something- somewhere over the rainbow. then there was a shadow. the silhouette that stole a beat in between beats. stole the whole organ itself. the windows of our souls faced each other, like neighbors peeping through the open curtains. peeping at the beautiful kid next door, the houses burning down around them from the infatuation licking at their insides. breath- it's own cloud of lust pouring from between our lips. and you smiled. "hello, my love."
and my ceiling collapsed.

-my body is on fire
because of you
