i figured it out.
i placed my finger on it and it cut me open.

(i love blood.)

the open wound poured forth all the reasons i told you no.
why i held the knife to your throat.

(i can see my eyes reflecting off its surface.)

no was my fortress. a strong wall that id built over my lifetime. it held me inside like a child- wandering naked amongst my treasures like a smoke-lunged monster.

(i choke on my own breath.)

you offered your love on a silver tongue and i craved your rose garnered lips.
waving a white flag above my head, i bathed in the hope that you'd wrap me up in it and make me your wife.

(you approach my gates.)

but i panicked.
i let the dogs lose.

(they have pretty teeth.)

you nurse your wounds on the sandy horizon.
please come back.
will you accept an invitation this time?
my heart longs for your forgiveness.

but some mistakes leave festering scars.

-i will kiss your wounds
