Chapter 4 ~ Build Up

“What class do you have next?” Luke asked curiously as he walked out of history with me. I glanced down at my sheet I was holding and turned back to him.

“Chemistry with Miss. Hent.” I breathed. He smirked.

“I have that as well. Lauren will be in that class with us.” he murmured as we began to walk down the hall, I trailed along not knowing where the hell I was going.

“Lauren?” I asked un-sure and he looked up with a sheepish grin.

“Oh…sorry I never told you. Lauren’s my girlfriend.” she explained. I felt a sudden sadness in my chest but shoved it away. It wasn’t like I was really into him anyways…he was cute but right now he seemed more like friend material over anything. I nodded at him with an encouraging smile and he grinned.

We kept walking and I followed along like a lost puppy. We went down a small staircase to a new level before we reached a science lab.

The classroom was already full and I felt my heart pump quickly as Luke went and sat beside a beautiful girl with red hair that hung in long curls and bright grey eyes. Her lips were covered in a bright red lipstick and I could tell she was confident, but seemed friendly as she glanced at me and gave me a wide smile.

I smiled shyly back but felt fear bubble in my stomach as I eyed the room for a free seat.

Everyone seemed to stare at me and I felt as if I was the main show at the carnival with everyone’s eyes on me.

“Miss. Jenson is it not?” asked a feminine voice from behind me. I turned to see a older woman, her dark brown hair knotted on the top of her head and she wore a simple skirt and blouse. She smiled warmly at me and I smiled politely but it was hard knowing everyone’s stares were still directed at me.

“that’s me.” I spoke up and she chuckled lightly under her breath.

“you may take a seat beside our friend Blake, he hasn’t had a Chem partner in so long and I think he would love to have one.” she directed and I nodded, but inside I felt pure anger and fear consume me.

I didn’t want to sit beside Blake…not at all. I glanced over at Luke who sent me a look that read, “please forgive me?” I just gave him a slight nod before I went ton the left side of the room near the front door and plopped myself down on the stool beside Blake.

“Like I need a partner…” muttered Blake under his breath as he leaned forward on the table and set his chin on his arm, relaxing as if he was going for a nap. I stared at him in pure shock. He really was far to outspoken for my liking. Luke had said he didn’t talk that much but for some reason he was always making sarcastic remarks around me.

I set my bag on the ground, took out a notepad and a pen before I began to listen to Miss. Hent go on about our future projects and tests. I tried my best to listen but I couldn’t help but feel someone’s eyes burning into me. I knew exactly who they belonged to but I refused to look over at him. I truly was starting to despise his very existence.
