Scarrlet's P.O.V
We are docking in Okasis. I had gotten too weak to keep my barrier up so I had to take it down the barrier. Luckily, I took it down once we finished docking. I felt Garroth pick me up. And I knew it was Garroth because I told my guards to escort us back to Zane's house.
When we got to Zane's house Kole led Garroth to my room while John got Zane. Garroth set me down on my bed. I heard the door open. I opened my eyes and looked over. I saw Zane come in with Dr. Chris! Zane told everyone to get out.
Zane came over and sat next to me, "Why do you always have to get stabbed to complete your assignments?" Zane questioned.
I felt my wound being healed. It was an amazing feeling. Once I felt it fully healed, I sat up. It felt great to not have a hole in my gut. I looked at Zane and said, "I hafta always leave in style. Plus, I brought Garroth back without murdering the whole village. I wanted to murder that lord so bad but I knew if I did that would mean war."
"Well, at least your safe. We will be having dinner with my family tonight, so please become presentable," Zane told me. He quickly kissed my cheek and left.
I looked at the clock and saw that it is about 3. We usually eat at 5. I went to take a shower. I scrubbed all the blood and dirt off of me. I washed my greasy hair. I got out and dried off. I dried my hair. I then brushed through my tangled hair. I then put it in a braided crown.
I went to my closet and opened the door. I walked in and looked around I found a black, floor-length dress that had many layers of fabric. It has long lace sleeves.
I did light makeup and put on my golden heels.
When I was finished I heard a knock on my door. I quickly check the time and see that it is twenty of five. I go over and open the door. I see the one and only Zane.
"You look, lovely sweetheart," he compliments with a smile.
"Not too bad yourself, love," I tell him.
He holds out his arm to me, which I accept. We head out to Lord Garte's house. which is a good ten-minute walk. We were escorted into the house and to the dining room.
We saw Lord Garte and Lady Zianna were already here along with Garroth and two other people. We went over to our seats and sat down. Lord Garte saw us and announced, "Welcome to my son, The High Preist of Okasis Zane and his fiancee Lady Scarrlet of New Burrow. This is the Lord of Scaleswind and his daughter Lady Nicole. Lady Nicole is engaged to my boy Garroth."
"It is an honor to meet you both," I tell them with a fake smile that could fool anyone.
"I agree ad hope that I can perform the wedding ceremony when it is time," Zane tells them.
"The honor is all ours we hope that this alliance will bring peace to the region and hope to our people," the Lord of Scaleswind told us.
"Now that the formalities are over let us eat!" Lady Zianna said with enthusiasm.
The dinner was very uneventful until Lady Nicole asked the question everyone wanted to ask. "Garroth it was said that you had disappeared after guard school all those years ago. Where did you go and why did you come back?"
Good thing Garroth is still under my control some. Otherwise, everything would be in ruins.
"I was a guard in Pheonix Drop. I wanted to have some action in a less grand village and wanted to help the less fortunate. I didn't realize how long I was gone until Lady Scarrlet came and told me how long I was gone I realized it was time I came back home," he said. It was the truth, well at least what he thinks the truth to be.
"That is so sweet Gar Gar! I knew my little boy was a gentleman," Lady Zianna told him. Good thing everything was believable. Now to finish this dinner and head home.
We finished dinner and start our way home. On the way, I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I froze from the shock. I thought I would never see him again. He was killed by werewolves. He shouldn't be here, but he is. Why and how is he here?
"Sweetheart? Sweetheart?! Are you okay? Scarrlet!" Zane yelled. I could see his lips moving but I couldn't hear him. He was here. I tried to move to run back home and lock myself in my room, but I can't. I felt Zane lead me back to our house. He brought me to my room and kissed me goodnight. He was about to leave when I got up and grabbed his hand.
He looked back at me. I smiled at him and said, "Stay, please."
He smiles and says, "As you wish m'lady."
That night Zane and I were one. Nothing could have separated us. And for a time I forgot what I saw, but that was only until the morning.
------------
I woke up cuddled up in my fiancee's arms. I was happy, that was until I remembered. I got up and went to the bathroom. I closed the door and went over to the mirror. When I looked at my reflection all I saw was the scene of him getting killed over and over again. I watched it. I couldn't take it anymore and I burst into tears.
"It's all my fault! It's my fault!" I yell. I don't care if all of Ru'aun heard me. I can't take it anymore. I kept crying. All of my emotions for everything are going into these tears. Guilt. Pain. Anger. Stress. Sadness. Regret. All of them went into my tears.
I heard the bathroom door open and close. Light footsteps were making their way to me. A pair of strong arms wrapped themselves around me. I turned around and saw Zane there. I was on the bathroom floor with tears streaming down my face and Zane was there with me, comforting me.
Zane picked me up bridal style and brought me back into my room. He sat down on my bed with me in his lap. I just hugged him and cried into his chest. He let me. I felt safe when I was in his arms.
When I was done crying he looked me in the eye and asked, "What is wrong sweetheart? I haven't seen you like this before."
"I saw someone I never thought I would see again. And it is my fault that he died," I reply.
"Who?" he asked.
"My dead older brother, Gene. He died. How was he in the streets last night?" I told him, tears coming to my eyes.
"I don't know how he was there, but I can tell you this one thing, no matter what, I am here. I can have Janis patrol the streets at night to make sure there is nothing suspicious going on. We can't have anything go wrong these next couple weeks. Garroth and Nicole get married in two weeks. Then we get married two weeks after, which is a week after you turn eighteen," he tells me. I smile and give him a kiss. I then head to my closet to get changed. I have to get ready for the Jury of Nine meeting later. Zane left to get ready as well. Time to put my emotions aside and focus on the present.
I have to let the past go.
Good Idea Scarrlet, just let the past go. I am honestly shocked that everyone was fooled by Garroth at the dinner. And, just because I wrote it doesn't mean that was what I planned. I don't know what I'm writing until its done. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this part of Assassin! See you in the next chapter, My Protectors.
~Bye~
