Chapter Twenty-one- A Question

As Sherlock and Bethany stepped out of the shaky boat, Beth smiled. She saw their next destination.

"The lock bridge?" Beth smiled. Sherlock nodded. Beth grabbed Sherlock's hand and pulled him up to a stand where they could purchase a lock. They bought a golden lock and a sharpie pen. Bethany took in a deep breath and wrote 'BRG' on the lock. Sherlock gave her a puzzled look.

"Bethany Rose Greene," Beth explained. Sherlock took the lock from Beth and wrote 'WSSH'. Bethany gave him the same look he gave her.

"William Sherlock Scott Holmes." He told her. Beth smiled.

"Your first name is William?" she gasped. Sherlock nodded. He put a heart around the initials. He looked at Beth and she gave him a warm smile. She wrapped her hand around Sherlock and they both locked the lock. Then, Beth took they key and threw it into the water.

"Sherlock," she started. Her eyes began to tear. "I love you more than anything in this entire world." Sherlock smiled.

"And I love you more that anything in this entire universe, Beth." Sherlock kissed Beth's forehead. They slowly pulled away from each other.

"What's the next surprise?" Beth smiled. Sherlock just pulled Beth into the nearest cab.

"It's just that. A surprise." Sherlock teased.

After about a ten minute car ride, Sherlock and Beth arrived at their next destination. Beth could see where they were from over the hill.

"So. The Eiffel Tower?" Beth cheered. Sherlock nodded.

The couple slowly made their way up the hill. They stood in front of the tower, and Sherlock grabbed both of Beth's hands. He took in a deep breath.

"Bethany," he began. "When I met you, I had recently been depressed. I didn't eat, I didn't sleep, I didn't leave the flat. But once I saw you at the door of 221b Baker Street, my spirit was lifted. I wanted to do all of the things I couldn't. I didn't understand the feeling at the time, so I avoided you. But that was the worst mistake I have ever made. Once I got to know you, I began to open up. I became more cheerful, more loving, more kind, and more bearable to be around. You did that, Bethany. You changed me. Seeing you in the hospital with the fear of never being able to see you again, broke my heart. Along with when you were on the moon, and when you were kidnapped. All those times made me figure out I couldn't live without you. But when you left me for a year, I realised how much I needed you. I needed to be with you. I needed to see you. I needed to hear you laugh and talk. I needed to feel your warm body wrapped around mine. I realised that I couldn't live without you. I know it's only been around two years, but," Sherlock slowly lowered himself to one knee. Beth felt tears fall down her cheek. She covered her mouth. Sherlock pulled out a small black box and opened it, revealing a beautiful ring.

"Bethany Rose Greene. Will you do me, William Sherlock Scott Holmes the honour, of allowing me to take your hand in marriage?" Sherlock asked. A small tear rolled down his face. Bethany nodded.

"Yes, Sherlock. God, yes." Beth cheered. Sherlock removed the ring from the box and slowly placed it on Beth's finger. She smiled. He sprung up and wrapped his arms around Beth, pulling her into a passionate kiss. They heard applause from all around them and some people taking pictures. Beth slowly pulled away and rested her head in Sherlock's arm.

"Is this why you kept on leaving the flat?" Beth chuckled. She felt bad for being upset at him now. Sherlock nodded.

"I'm sorry that I worried you, Beth. But I know that you now understand why I was so secretive." Sherlock smiled. Beth looked up at him.

"I really do love you, Sherlock." Beth smiled.

"And I really do love you." Sherlock replied. The two newly engaged couple slowly made their way to a cab, hand in hand.
