Shadow's POV

I kept going over in my head all of the people I hired. None of them had any type of connection to any of us. We do extensive background checks and everything. So I have no clue how this guy slipped past us. Could he be the one who killed my parents? If so, why? They weren't the best people to be around but they didn't deserve to die. Of course, I spent most of my days being raised by other people. But they were my parents, and I loved them. Although, they did travel a lot. So they could have enemies I don't know about. Plus I got a bunch of money and a home in Canada. Perhaps they were drug dealers. I know that sounds crazy, but how else would they get so much money?

I did find it strange. Of course, the money just sat there until I was discovered, legally I mean. I hid in the shadows, just taking what I needed to survive. No friends, no family. Just me. That's how it's always been. For as long as I can remember. Now I have more than me to worry about. I have Angeline and Timothy. Not to mention those we've dragged into this. I wanted nothing more than to find the person responsible and move on with our lives.

"Shadow? Why are you still up?" Charlotte said, causing me to jump.

"I-I'm not tired." I blushed. She smiled and walked over to me. I was leaning against the counter, sipping on some hot cocoa.

"There's something I need to talk to you about." She said quietly.

"I was wondering why you were over here," I replied. Her and Ruvik were staying in the guest house with Marylynn. Although with both of them over there, it probably looks like FBI headquarters.

"He hasn't gone to sleep. They're actually going to look at a new lead in a few hours. It's something big." She said, leaning on the counter next to me.

"How big?" I asked, taking another sip of my hot cocoa.

"He honestly thinks he has the guy. Now I don't know much about this stuff but after what Jethro said, Ruvik started digging more into it. So they're going to check it out in the morning. Probably will be gone all day." She sighed.

"What about you?" I asked.

"I'm going back home." She sighed sadly. She just got here, why was she leaving so soon?

"Why?" I asked.

"Ruvik is worried about me and the baby. So I'm going home and spending time with Gizelle." She replied. I remembered Gizelle. She was supposed to help me with planning the wedding. Of course with all this mayhem, I haven't given it much thought.

"Maybe when all of this is over, we can come to visit. Gizelle is helping me with something." I said, hiding my face in the mug. I didn't want everyone to know. And I knew I was a bad liar.

"I heard. I'm actually helping her help you." She chuckled.

"Honestly, I have no clue what I'm doing." I sighed, setting my mug down.

"It's okay to be nervous. But right now you have bigger things to worry about. Better plan a summer wedding." She smiled. She stood and started walking towards the doorway.

"I thought you wanted to talk to me about something," I said before she started to leave.

"I did." She winked and walked into the living room. A few seconds later I heard the door closing. I rinsed out my mug and put it away. I wasn't tired at all. I had so much in my mind. Everyone was asleep. Dawn was approaching. Today was a new day. I started to head back upstairs when I heard a loud bang. It sounded like it was coming from Jake's room. I started walking towards his room when the door flew open. Jake made eye contact with me, his face filled with worry.

"What's going on?" I asked, concerned.

"Jethro is missing. We had a fight last night, and now he's gone." He ran his hands over his face and paced back and forth.

"He couldn't have gone far, there are guards everywhere," I said, trying to think of the next step.

"I'll let Ruvik and Marylynn know. They can look for him. Do you mind keeping an eye on Mistress?" I asked. He sighed and nodded. I stepped in our room really quickly to grab a shirt. Angeline and Timothy were sound asleep on the bed. After I put on the shirt I headed downstairs. Why would Jethro leave? What's so important that he would put himself in danger? Maybe he was guilty. This man is a monster who just proclaimed innocence and begged for forgiveness. In any other crime movie, that makes him the bad guy.

I approached the front door and opened it. A gush of the coldest wind hit me with full force.

"Shit," I grunted and walked down the cement steps. Thank God for salt. At the rate I was going, I was worried I'd bust my ass on some ice. The guest house was down the driveway. I saw some guards move from their position, watching me.

"Just going to talk to Ruvik!" I called and waved. They waved back and I continued to the guest house. I knocked on the door when I finally reached it. Ruvik opened the door, completely shirtless.

"Aren't your nipples cold?" I complained. I hurried inside and he shut the door behind me.

"Wouldn't you like to know." He smirked. I looked around to see exactly what I imagined. Papers everywhere. Cups of coffee everywhere. Slobs.

"What are you doing here? Is Angeline okay?" He asked with concern in his voice.

"As far as I know. Jethro is missing." I replied, hugging myself to keep warm. I put a shirt on. However, I did not grab a jacket. Let's just hope Angeline doesn't find out.

"We know." He said. I snapped my head back over to him.

"You know?" I asked.

"Have a seat Shadow. We need to talk." I heard a voice say. I looked over to see a perfectly sculpted chest. With a baby cuddling it.

"Richard? What the hell are you doing here?" I gasped.
