Cody's POV
"So are you going to homecoming?" I ask glancing at Ashton while folding tank tops. But he doesn't answer, he just continues to hang up some shirts. "Um..hello?" I say a bit louder, just in case he didn't hear me.He turned around glaring bullets at me, with those cold eyes of his that I've got kind of accustomed to. It was like that moment in the room we ate lunch before never happened. I rose an eyebrow at him as he sighed climbing up the ladder, to hang clothes in higher places.
"I don't know." he finally answers as I go over to the cart with pants.
"Well you have time to think about it I guess, you love dances though. Any even the school mentioned you practically screamed excitement about it." I say remembering smiley Ashton in our freshmen year.
"I use to love lots of things freshman year." I heard him mutter causing me to frown slightly.
"How could just one summer make you change so much?" I ask while folding some jeans.
"How could a summer not change you one bit?" he spat back and I turned around glaring slightly, only for it to vanish when his foot slips off the step.
I run over to catch him. But he catches himself on time. He turns his head to look at me, his eyes are colder as he glares at me. It felt like his eyes were piercing right through me.
"I would appreciate it if you didn't distract me while I worked." he mutters as he regains his balance.
"Right...sorry about that heh." I say rubbing the back of my neck
I left him alone like he wanted. Well...I did until our shifts were over. I got off earlier than he did so I waited in my car under a tree. Some other cars kind of block me, plus I didn't exactly tell him I had a car. But just to be safe if he knew I did I made sure to pick a good spot to be hidden.
When I saw one of the front doors to Old Navy open I zoned in on the people leaving. One of the people was Ashton. I took my car out if park and put it in reverse. I drove out of the parking space then eventually drove up to Ashton. He blinked then glared as I roll down my window.
"Hey." I say grinning at him.
Some girls that was leaving with him walk away laughing and some guys shake their heads. He muttered to himself and walked over to my car swiftly. He leaned down to look at me with his piercing, blue eyes.
"What do you want?" he hisses.
"To give you a lift, take you home and maybe talk a bit?" I suggest with a shrug and smile with some hope.
"You're out of your mind." he says laughing and I grin as he walks around.
I unlock the doors so he can get in. I wait to hear and/or see the passenger door open, any door. But none do and I look the rearview mirror to see him walking away quickly. Of course I catch up, driving up behind him quicker. I think my horn causing him to jump then groan when he sees me. I follow driving besides him. He covers some of his face with his hand as some people look over.
"Why are you doing this?" he asks between his teeth.
"I just want to talk to you, I'll even settle with your phone number." I say as he stops making me wink. "Is that a yes to giving me your number?"
"Nope." he says with a smug smile as a bus comes, I realize I'm near the bus stop.
"That's just cold." I mutter getting out of the way for the bus so it can take my place.
"Bye Cody." he says when the bus doors open before going up the stairs into the bus.
But I would not give up. I wanted our friendship back, just like I did with my other friends. But Ashton wasn't like them, I knew them longer. That could be why they forgave me quicker. So this would be a mission, same with Logan. At least with Ashton it seems I had better shot, but I wouldn't give up on Logan so easy. But Ashton I would focus on first since I've made more progress with him than Logan.
So everyday I had work I pestered him. Or that's what Ashton and Patrick called it. I did it for about a week or more until he finally crumbled. I just had to do the same with Logan. But first I needed to play my cards carefully. I had Ashton's full attention right now.
"You're crazy! I know you put my name for homecoming prince! Who else would?" Ashton yells at me with his face turning red from anger.
"Well you wanted to be homecoming king last year, but of course that didn't happen. But this year they have prince and princess, so I thought I xoukd somewhat help that wish become a reality." I say moving my hands in the air to emphasis my point as he glared at me.
"Stop living in the past! I'm not the same Ashton from freshman year so stop it!" he yelled gripping the mop in his hands tightly as I stared at him. "Please...just stop, things are not the same and they never will be." he says getting quiet as he continues his mopping.
"That's all I have of you." I mumble looking away and dust off shelves as silence fills the air between us.
"Present me is here..I just... I don't know Cody." I hear him say sighing.
"Give me a chance." I say finishing the dusting and turn to look at him, his face softens and he sighs again. But his eyes seem to go to ice when he looks at me.
