Chapter 22: Ride Through Hell Part 1

Cody's POV
I hummed drumming my fingers on the steering wheel as I waited for Ashton to leave out the school building. Oh yeah, forgot to say I pick him up and drop him off from school and well almost anywhere now.

"What the hell are you doing?" I hear someone ask and I turn my head to see Darby.

"Oh hey Darby." I say and he raises an eyebrow.

"Pat, Meg, and Howie have been wondering where you been." he says opening the passenger door and gets in.

"Why didn't they just ask me then?" I ask rolling my eyes. "And get out of my car."

"Not until you tell me what's going on, and they figured to leave you alone since you didn't disappear completely this time." he replies closing the door as I roll my eyes.

"This time, look what are you talking about? Nothing is-"

"Um change of plans?" a voice interrupts me, and I glance to my left to see Ashton.

"Oh uh no." I say glancing back and forth between Ashton and Darby. Which Darby keeps giving me looks, glancing at Ashton here and there. "He was just going." I say.

"Yeah, my bad." Darby says opening the door and getting out.

"It's fine." Ashton says smiling at him and glances at me with a weird look in his eyes, before walking around to the passenger seat.

Darby gives me a look that tells me he'll be asking more questiond later. I shooed him off then started the car when Ashton was inside. Once he closed the door and got his seatbelt on, I pulled out of the school student parking lot area.

"So what was that?" Ashton asks when I drove out onto to the road, I glanced at him then looked back at the road.

"What ya mean?" I ask keeping my focus on the road.

"You know what I mean, your friend." he says and I glance at him again to find him looking at me.

"He's just nosey." I say shrugging and he rolls his eyes.

"Who would want to be nosey about your boring life." he says and it was my turn to roll my eyes.

"Oh yeah, I bet you're interested in mine." I say laughing.

"I should be saying that for you." he says and a hint of something flickers in his eyes. He was smiling, it was small but something.

"Maybe I am, why else would I be driving you place to place." I say humming to myself.

"I asked that myself quite often." he says as I stop at a red light. "Cody, why are you doing all this? For a second chance? And if that's the case why do you want one? It's been months since we've spoke in freshmen year."

"Maybe I missed you." I hear myself say as I look at the light, waiting for it to turn green.

"Maybe?" he says and for a moment there's silence before I feel heat near me.

I glance in Ashton's direction, for a spilt second his body was near mine. Closer to me more than it has ever been. The light turned green and I might have pressed too hard on the gas. Ashton leaned forward and was smacked back against his seat. From the corner of my eye I saw him shoot me a glare.

"Sorry." I say under my breath driving normally again.

"It's fine." I hear him say, I glance at him to see him relaxing against his seat. "I think you shouldn't have gotten a driver's license if you do that." he says shooting a remark my way with bit of a smirk.

"I think I can just drop you off over here if I wanted." I shoot back as I pull over.

"Oh my gosh, you're not serious." he says laughing as I park near the sidewalk and raise and eyebrow. "You got to be joking, right?" he asks taking off his seatbelt looking at me like I'm crazy and just ran over a puppy. Before I could say anything a lady's voice interrupts us.

"Nice ride." a voice says, I turn in the direction of the voice to see none other than my ex girlfriend Rebecca.
