"Get back here!" I yelped feeling the 'Shadow Ball' attack explode near my fluffy tail. Darkrai and his jellyfish parasite really wanted to kill me. I glared at the Pokémon connected to Darkrai's head in anger.
"Chase?" I asked wearily, "You still in my head?"
'Yes, what is it?' I narrowly avoided another attack continually dipping in and out in a zig zag pattern towards them.
"It's going to be difficult to not hit both of them."
'... Because the jellyfish is attached to his head?'
"Mostly because-" I barely avoided another attack when Chase somehow created another pillar for me as cover. After catching my breath I finished my thought, "-I want to hit both of them right about now!"
'Don't! Remember, Darkrai is being controlled by the floating jellyfish. If you do release him, I doubt he'd appreciate getting hit. He might even help you finish off that thing after it's released him. I don't think he would show much love for the jellyfish much after it used him.'
I winced against a shower of shattering rock debris. "Can you, like, help me out more? I'm never going to get close at this rate!" I didn't have time for his response when the pillar was shattered leaving me out in the open. I used 'Quick Attack' as a last resort to escape getting obliterated then and there.
'I don't know how-' suddenly Chase stopped talking in my head. I was nearly out of breath and these attacks were getting closer and closer to hitting me. Sprinting towards them earlier didn't help. I was becoming predictable to the jellyfish as it gained more influence over Darkrai's actions.
"This isn't a time to leave me hanging Chase!"
'I got it!' My legs stopped moving and with a mind of their own, they pointed me to Darkrai's incoming attack! "What are you-" I opened my mouth to shout, but instead I seemed to have caught the attack in my maw. Just hovering an inch away was the attack that should have ended me. Without having time to process what was happening, I fired it back forcing them to block the attack. I blinked in surprise when I was urged forward. "I don't understand? How..."
'I think I'm in your subconscious... it's like I can unlock abilities and powers you normally wouldn't possess? I think I accidentally forced you to learn 'Shadow Ball' in place of another move so, sorry about that.'
I blinked in surprise, "Are you possessing me?"
'Oh come on Ellie, it sounds so much worse when you say it like that. Maybe control would be a better word for it? I don't think I'm controlling you as much as I'm influencing your actions however. With my help I can aid your actions, make you stronger, faster, and more powerful... I think? It's like having a second person to help I guess. That is, if you want me to.'
Darkrai and the jellyfish recovered and looked less than pleased with the turn of events. I already came this far with weird things entering my head, might as well continue. "Alright Chase, let's do this." As Darkrai fired, I sprinted forward.
It was strange, I was moving faster than I ever had before, and my senses became heightened. I was easily able to dodge attacks without losing speed now, and only gained on both of them. The jellyfish sensed this change, forcing Darkrai to launch his attacks faster.
Pillars rose from the ground as I used them to climb up to them. In a last ditch effort, they launched a barrage of 'Shadow Ball' attacks to hit me. With Chase's help, I reflexively moved through the air avoiding the last attacks, before slamming into the jellyfish Pokémon.
It knocked it off alright, tumbling in the air in a dazed state. Darkrai looked beyond exhausted, though his eyes showed a fire that made my fur stand on end. With the last of his strength, his body crackled before releasing a 'Thunder' attack on the jellyfish Pokémon, frying it to a crisp. It shrieked before dissolving into nothingness. Only then did Darkrai hover down to recover.
