___________________________Matthew fell asleep like that, his face nuzzled against Ivan's neck. Ivan didn't mind, Matthew needed rest, he was sick. Ivan gently picked up the smaller Canadian and carried him upstairs into the master bedroom. He gently set him down on the bed and covered him up with a blanket. He didn't really know what to do so he started to walk out of the room to go back to the TV, he didn't want to disturb the other's sleep.
"Please don't leave me..." Matthew whisphered.
Ivan turned back around, seeing the other sitting up in his bed.
Ivan smiled softly, "alright I'll stay with you."
He walked around the opposite side of the bed, crawling under the blankets and laying down next to Matthew. Matthew latched on to him and curled up close to him. Ivan hugged him in return and the smaller quickly fell back asleep. Ivan was soon to follow, the world fading away into a peaceful realm of silence.

Matthew was first to wake. His sickness had grown worse over the night, he felt really cold and his head pounded. He growled from the sudden pain and hid his face in Ivan's chest. Ivan woke from the movement.
"Are you alright sunflower?" The Russian asked, Matthew's body was giving off mass amounts of heat. He had a severe fever. Ivan gently pet his hair to comfort him.
"It's alright, you're okay." He reassured the younger. Matthew looked up at him in response. His eyes were hazy and disorientated. He had a painful expression on his face and his skin was deathly pale.
"How did this happen? Is something wrong with Canada?" Ivan asked.
"I don't think so...I f-feel like I'm losing control...I'm fading..." Matthew was panting.
Ivan knew that was impossible. A nation could not fade unless they fell. Even if they were somewhat forgotten like Matthew, they wouldn't just fade out of nowhere. Canada was in good health last time he checked, he wondered if it was something else that had created Matthew's delusions.
"You can't be fading, Canada is fine. It's just a delusion. Something is messing with your head." Ivan gently cradled him.
Matthew shivered violently, "I'm freezing..." he closed his eyes."You should have listened to her Matthew." Ivan grinned at him, his voice changed, it sounded distant.
"What?"
"You ignored her, this is your fault."
Matthew felt a sharp pain in his head, "what d-do you mean?" He hissed, gripping his own head.
"Give in to it, the more you fight the more it will hurt." It was at this moment knew, Ivan was right. His eyes were closed and this wasn't real. This was a delusion.Ivan felt Matthew's body shake and tremor. This wasn't a sickness. He was mumbling to himself, this was dangerous. Something was trying to take control of Matthew's consciousness.
Ivan growled, "leave him alone." Was all he said. Matthew looked up at him. One eye was his normal violet, the other was a glowing gray. Ivan could recognize that colour anywhere.
"Matvey focus on my eyes, don't look away."
Matthew's gaze met Ivan's, the white started to fade. He didn't look away, he didn't want to. Ivan pet his hair, holding him tight, grounding him. After a minute of this, the headache went away and so did the voice. There was no more white, just violet.
Ivan smiled, and kissed Matthew's forehead, "he's gone and he can never bother you again, good job."
"What was that?" Matthew asked, exhausted.
"I don't know what he is. His name is General Winter he protected me as a child but he also tortured me. He sometimes tries to take control of people I care about and turn them against me." Ivan explained.
"And you're just now explaining this?!" Matthew snapped.
"I didn't think he'd bother you since you're a strong first world nation, I guess I was wrong. I'm sorry." Ivan sighed sadly.
Matthew felt sorry for making him sad, "no I'm sorry. It's not your fault. How'd you know how to stop it?"
"I didn't. I just knew that if you were able to tell the difference between delusion and reality you could be grounded easier."
"It was really hard to tell the difference at first, there were two of you. If I closed my eyes I could still see you but you were mad at me. When I opened my eyes you were supporting me. When you told me to look into your eyes I knew it was real." Matthew explained.
"Yeah, now that you've defeated him once he can't ever bother you again. I can't believe after all these years he'd try to take somebody away from me again."
"Who else has it happened to?"
"Um...France, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, and Poland to my knowledge. There could be more."
"France!?" Matthew looked worried.
"It was a really long time ago." Ivan reassured him.
"Oh, I think he told me about it once."
Ivan nodded, "I wouldn't doubt it.""Well, now I'm tired again. That was exhausting." Matthew snuggled him close.
Ivan smiled, spooning him gently. He kept him warm, protecting him.
