A few hours later they prepared to leave. Ivan grabbed his bags and Matthew picked up the things he brought from home. Matthew giggled excitedly as he waited for Ivan at the front door. Ivan saw his new lover waiting for him, he hummed, walking over.
"You ready to go Matvey?" He said smoothly.
"Of course!" Matthew took his hand, opening the door. Ivan locked the door behind them, walking down the driveway together. Kuma tiredly trotted behind the two, pretty much forgotten at this point, not that he cared.
"We'll walk until we can hail a taxi," He led Matthew down the driveway. "And remember er..we can't really do this in public...at least until we get to your home."
Matthew nodded, understanding what Ivan was trying to say. They walked down the driveway and onto the sidewalk. At this point, they were just walking side-by-side. Matthew looked around excitedly. He hadn't really gotten a chance to look around until now. The area they were in was pretty forested, similar to his home. The weather, the evening air had a small bite to it.
After 10 minutes of walking the two spotted a taxi and called for it. They shuffled in quickly with all their bags. They started driving and before Matthew could process it, they were already at the airport. They got out of the taxi. The airport was surprisingly quiet, not many people were there.
Ivan took him to security, standing in the relatively short security line. This didn't feel real to Matthew. He had to be dreaming. This wasn't happening. He hadn't really fallen in love. He wasn't really taking his new lover to visit his motherland, was he? He was having a hard time trusting his own mind. This could never be real, it's an allusion.
"What are we doing?" Matthew asked. His foreign tongue stood out to others in line, nobody seemed to care.
"We're in line for security. We're going to Canada remember?" Ivan answered, slightly confused by the Canadian's question.
Matthew nodded slightly. So it is real. It's all been real. This is real. Matthew sighed to himself slightly. He had so many emotions. He didn't even know what he was feeling. He just knew this was right. He knew deep down, everything that had happened in the past very short time with Ivan was right. Meant to be, this was his destiny. This was the missing piece in his life, someone to care for. Matthew's thoughts drifted off again, running wild as he stood, staring at the floor blankly.
Ivan gently tapped his shoulder, breaking his trance. "Are you okay Matvey?"
"Oh yeah, of course. Just thinking...everything...over." He chuckled lightly.
Ivan nodded, this was quite a lot. And very unexpected at that. When he sent the note, he never expected it to bring anything to him. He just wanted to get it off his chest. He just wanted Matthew to know he wasn't really alone. He wanted Matthew to know there was at least one nation who cared for his well-being. He needed Matthew to know that someone felt his pain, understood it.
The line moved up quickly, soon enough it was their turn. Despite Ivan's anxiety, they made it through fine. Now they just had to wait for their plane. Matthew especially hated this part because he couldn't do anything but just sit there awkwardly with his own thoughts. Ivan did the same. Matthew didn't want to have a conversation because it was very odd to him to be speaking his mother tongue when everyone around him was speaking a different language. Ivan seemed to get the message and stayed quiet.
After a painfully long wait, they finally boarded the plane. As usual, a wave of exhaustion hit Matthew as he sat down in the window seat. Kuma sat on his lap as Ivan sat next to him.
He looked up at Ivan tiredly. Ivan looked back at him, curious. Matthew smiled slightly. He relaxed in his seat as the speakers began going on and on about safety, first in Russian, then in English, then in French.
Matthew tapped his foot impatiently.
"Je vous souhaite un merveilleux voyage à Ottawa Ontario, Canada! Bonne soirée! Reste en sécurité." The voice finally trailed off.
Matthew sighed, resting his head against the cold window, watching the ground move. He felt Ivan gently grab his hand. He looked over at the larger man who was gazing down at him. He lay his head against Ivan's shoulder, using it as a pillow. He drifted off to sleep as Ivan hummed to himself softly.
It might have been out there, but Matthew could've sworn Ivan was humming 'O Canada'. But before Matthew could really catch the melody, he was already asleep.
