5-year-old courtney tozier waddled up to her mother, who was sat at the dining table chatting away with her close friend from high school. her father, mark tozier, was sat beside the woman's husband bonding over some sport.

richie tozier was sat in the living room with the couples son, they were sat on the worn out sofa watching cartoons on the tv.

the boy was a year older than richie, courtneys age. he was just a few months older than the girl, however the two couldn't seem to get along.

"mom" courtney breathed out, catching the attention of her mother, kerry tozier, which quickly ended the conversation she was having.

the girl looked visibly upset as she was adjusting the ponytail her mother had done for her earlier on in the day. "can i sit with you?" she pleaded. "i don't like that boy, he's mean."

"what's happened honey?" kerry asked sweetly, picking up her daughter allowing her to sit on her lap.

"he pulled my hair" the little one replied. her father shot a disapproving look towards the boys mother, who quickly excused herself into the living room to scold her son, obviously upset by his actions.

"i'm so sorry" the boys father announced. "that's unacceptable, i'm not sure why he's acting this way, we've rasied him better than that."

"thank you for apologising" kerry smiled towards the man.

she looked down at her daughter, taking out her hair tie before neatly redoing the ponytail. "do you feel better now sweetie?" she asked.

"no" courtney pouted. "can i have some chocolate?"

mark stood up from his seat, making his way towards one of the cupboards. he pulled out a small bar of chocolate and passed it to his daughter. he placed a finger in front of his lips, "dont tell your brother" he joked.

courtney smiled warmly at her father, gladly taking the candy from his hands. "thank you!"

suddenly, her mother's friend entered the kitchen with an angry look on her face, accompanied by her son, who was looking down at the floor.

"im very sorry about him," she sighed. "what do you have to say to courtney?"

the boy looked up slightly, pouting. "i'm sorry" he mumbled.

"tommy," his mother grew irritated, "apologise properly."

"i'm sorry for pulling your hair" he spoke a little louder this time.

courtney only looked up at her mother, unsure of what to say. she didn't like him.

"thank you for apologising, tommy" kerry replied for her. "it's getting a little late now though, so its time for you kids to go to bed"

the rest of the parents agreed, but courtney shook her head.

"not fair, i want to go play" she argued.

"you can play tomorrow honey, but now it's bed time" mark spoke up.

the girl reluctantly agreed, allowing her mother to take her upstairs to her bedroom.

"mom?" courtney spoke softly as the woman tucked her into bed.

"yes honey?"

"please don't invite him over again," she babbled sleepily. "i don't like him"

her other only nodded, kissing her forehead before turning to leave the room.

"goodnight my love" she smiled, closing her bedroom door.
