it had been a few hours since rachel eaton had disappeared downstairs to make dinner for the family, and their guest.
in this time courtney had accomplished absolutely nothing.
she sat at the small vanity on the left side of the bedroom, staring blankly into the the mirror. she was a very pretty girl, and she knew it sometimes. right now wasnt one of those times.
courtney desperately wanted a distraction, however there was nothing to do in the eaton household. it was so boring she was beginning to miss richie.
there were no girls her age in the eaton family, no one she could bond with over the summer, and in the few hours she had been there she hadn't seen anything of the o so famous tommy eaton. although, she wasn't quite complaining.
she pulled out a book from one of the drawers in the vanity, she had put it there a few hours ago. it was a book she had stolen from the school library a few months ago, but never got around to reading.
it wasn't a book she was particularly interested in, just something to help pass the time. courtney was never too invested in the idea of reading, she only did it when she felt like it.
courtney read a few chapters of the stolen book before she was interrupted by a soft knock on the door of her 'bedroom'.
"come in" she allowed, not taking her eyes off of the page.
the door slowly opened, revealing the one and only tommy eaton. courtney turned to look at who had come in and was greeted by his friendly smile.
he was quite a tall boy, he had messy brown hair and pretty green eyes. he was wearing a leather jacket over a white t-shirt, beverly would have loved to make fun of him.
he eyed her up, grinning to himself. courtney offered him a confused smile as he began to talk.
"my mom asked me to come get you" he informed her bluntly.
"oh, thanks." she said, placing her book down on the vanity before getting up from the seat.

the two took a seat in the remaining pair of chairs, which so happened to be placed next to each other.
"hello dear" mrs eaton smiled warmly as courtney settled down.
"hello again, rachel" courtney spoke politely, looking down at the meal set in front of her. "this looks delicious"
tommy nodded, stuffing his face. "i agree" he spoke, his words muffled by the food contained in his mouth.
courtney looked over at him, her nose scrunching up in disgust.
"tommy!" his mother scolded, wanting to make a good impression on her friends daughter. "we have a guest!"
tommy tilted his head towards courtney, offering a smirk. "my apologies, miss tozier" he mocked his mother, who was enhancing her accent.
"no worries" courtney replied.
rachel sat back in her chair, her smile prominent on her face. "nice to see you two getting along" the woman spoke. "a good change"
"a change?" courtney furrowed her eyebrows, taking a sip of her drink once she had finished her sentence.
"when you first met," rachel began. "you couldn't stand each other."
courtney looked down momentarily- racking her brain for any memory of the boy by her side. "i don't seem to remember ever meeting him"
"you wouldn't, it was quite a few years ago" rachel stated, her husband nodding along. "10 to be exact"
"oh my god" tommy breathed out, scrunching his nose up. "there's no way"
finally, courtney placed his face in her memory. she glanced over at him, she couldn't believe her mother had sent her to come and live with him.
"you've changed" the boy smirked, giving her a once over.
"i was 5" courtney defended- rolling her eyes.
just as tommy opened his mouth to reply his older brother, kyle, walked into the room.
"hey tommy, courtney" he nodded before shifting his attention to his parents. "dad, i need your help with the car, it's acting up again."
courtney shot tommy a confused look as the older woman giddily walked over to the kitchen counter, completely disregarding her meal.
"she makes lemonade whenever it's hot, and now she has more of an excuse to" tommy informed. "but it's good lemonade so who's complaining?"
courtney nodded smiling fondly in the direction of his mother.
maybe staying here wouldn't be that bad.
