"rise and shine" richie tozier shouted as he entered the bedroom of his older sister.
"shut up" courtney tozier groaned, throwing a pillow in the direction of his voice.
"come on court," richie grinned. "mom made pancakes"
"i'll be down in five minutes" courtney mumbled, shoving a pillow over her head in an attempt to drown out his voice.
"i'm not leaving until i see movement" richie stated, crossing his arms as he leaned against her doorframe.
courtney let out an exhausted sigh, sitting up in her spot as she lightly rubbed her eyes. "happy now?" she smiled sheepishly.
"overjoyed" richie replied sarcastically, turning around before making his way down the stairs.
courtney moved from her spot on her bed and walked towards her drawers. she pulled out her favourite baggy red hoodie and a pair of black bicycle shorts and placed it on her bed.
"courtney!" mark tozier shouted from the kitchen, growing impatient.
"i'm coming!" the girl shouted back, rolling her eyes as she made her way downstairs.
"how are you feeling about today, hun?" her father asked - a sympathetic smile on his face.
"shit" courtney answered dryly.
kerry tozier dropped her spatula onto the marble countertop, giving her daughter a stern glare.
"language!" she scolded.
"sorry mom," courtney apologised. "but at least i'm being honest"
"i don't want you to go" richie spoke up, his words muffled by the pancake stuffed in his mouth.
courtney raised her eyebrow at her brother as he continued to eat his pancakes. "can you repeat that?" she asked.
"nope" he grinned at her.
"why don't you want her to go?" mark questioned, placing his weekly newspaper flat on the table.
"i won't be able to protect her if she's hours away" richie shrugged.
"i don't need you to protect me" courtney spoke up.
"what could possibly be so dangerous in oregon?" kerry asked, placing a plate of pancakes in front of courtney before taking a seat at the table.
"well, boys" richie stated making his sister roll her eyes. "i don't trust boys"
"you are a boy!" courtney exclaimed. "how come you don't trust your own kind?"
"because we are disgusting" the boy answered back.
"that's true" kerry nodded at her only son.
"all i'm saying is," richie began. "don't get pregnant"
"richie!" mark scolded.
courtney looked up wide eyed, choking slightly on the pancakes stuffed into her mouth.
"what was your thought process behind that sentence?" kerry questioned her son as he broke into a fit of laughter.
"i'm just gonna go get ready now" courtney spoke softly, having a strong distaste for the now awkward atmosphere. "what time are we leaving dad?"
"nine," mark replied as he checked his watch for the time. "you've got half an hour"

courtney ran up to her room, quickly slipping into the red hoodie she had picked out earlier, which was laid out neatly on her bed.
she walked over to her vanity, applying a bit of mascara and eyebrow gel before placing the products in her bag. she quickly brushed out her hair, putting it up into a messy ponytail.
she gave herself an approving look in the mirror, grabbing her bag and making her way downstairs where she picked out her favourite pair of converse.
"are you ready honey?" her mother asked as she noticed her presence.
"almost mom, i just need to grab a bottle of water for the journey" she replied.
"richie, sweetheart, can you go get your sisters bags please?" kerry asked her son, flashing him a smile.
he reluctantly agreed, making his way up to her room to grab her things.
"i'm going to head to the car" courtney stated, opening the front door and stepping outside.
the cool air hit her face causing her cheeks to flush a little. richie quickly joined her - two of her three bags in hand. he seemed to be struggling.
"what the fuck do you have in here?" he breathed out. "have you packed the whole house or something"
"something like that" she nodded.
kerry tozier followed shortly behind letting out a curse as she laid the bag she was carrying on the floor. "jesus," she breathed out. "did you pack bricks?"
"be careful," courtney instructed. "there's some expensive stuff in there"
"yeah, okay" richie scoffed, dramatically dropping the bags on the floor. courtney shot him a glare as her father opened the boot to the family car.
"i guess this is it" richie sighed, smiling sadly at his sister.
"it's just the summer," courtney giggled softly. "i'll miss you, even though you're annoying"
"you love me" richie teased, courtney rolling her eyes in return.
"you smell like a skunk" courtney stated, grinning widely.
"shut up" richie defended - pulling her in for a hug.
"i seriously miss you," courtney mumbled as she pulled away from the hug. "but i'll see you soon!"
"have fun sweetheart" mark smiled sympathetically after he had finished loading the car for his daughters journey.
"oh, i'll try" the brunette reassured, giving her father a quick hug before walking over to the family car.
"see you in 6 weeks" courtney exclaimed before getting in the car with her mother. she quickly waved to her brother as her mother pulled out of the driveway.
"you'll have fun in oregon," kerry spoke up. "i promise"
"can't wait" courtney mumbled softly, resting her head in her palm. "oregon here i fucking come!"
