No amount of torture could add up to the pain Ronald Weasley felt within himself.

His whole body was in excruciating pain all because of Romilda Vane and her obsession with Harry Potter.

Well, the ginger headed boy thought to himself, it's not like I'm the Chosen One.

He thanked Merlin for his best mate, and that textbook Harry seemed to be so consumed by.

So much so Ron's oblivious mate  didn't notice Hermione and Malfoy sneaking around before the display one morning during the beginning of the term in the Great Hall.

Immediately Ron began to fume in anger at the thought.

At both of the traitors. Hermione was never honest about her feelings towards Ron and Malfoy just wanted an escuse to take advantage of whom he believed was prude, just to turn her into a skank, another one of his slags.

And Ron couldn't believe Hermione would ever stay in close proximity with the git besides when she slapped the arrogant fool, much less trust the prejudiced pureblood.

Hermione was his closest friend besides Harry, who withdrew from both of them when dealing with his past demon, You-Know-Who.

It killed them both and they bonded through the worry and care for Harry. Sometimes it felt as though they were more than friends, and Ron lived for those moments.

In his own way, Ron loved Hermione, but he could never tell her in this circumstance.

So when she stayed in the Hospital Wing overnight just to hold his hand, Ron did nothing, he didn't even wake up.

He just let his hand hang limply. Let her blindly grasp his unforgiving form.

Let her heart break a little more for all the heart ache she had caused him during the past term and a half.

The one time he ever let her know he was awake in the slightest was when Lavender came to visit the second morning he after his arrival in the hospital.

He couldn't deal with her headache causing self anymore. So Ron murmured 'Hermione' several times, knowing it would make Lavender leave.

Once Ron heard Lavender's shrill sobs fade away and out of the corridor he stopped squeezing Hermione's hand.

The pain was slowly receding to nothingness along with the pride Ron was showing Hermione.

So when he finally decided to wake up, Ron was prepared to tell her he was sorry. He was ready to be friends again and possibly more. Ron was ready to help guide her out of the toxic, evil claws grasping her that were Malfoy's.

Ron was so keen to come to terms with the girl that was prone to conceal her feelings, even from him.

But when Ron opened his eyes, all he saw was an empty chair next to his bed.

And the girl he loved walking out of the Hospital Wing with him.

Draco Lucious Malfoy.

Hermione, the girl Ron loved, in the arms of a deatheater.
