Chapter 21

As Alice and Loki run down the passageway, they silently worry about Meg and Erik. Will they be able to keep our secret? He wonders. Odin might see through their lies. What if it becomes just the two of us? We could never defend against ourselves. I'm scared, Lacie. I wish you could help me.

Along the way, Loki trips. He lets out a yell as he hits the ground. Alice turns around. "Edwin! Are you okay?" She asks.

He picks himself up. "Yeah," he groans. "Though I think I scraped my elbows up a bit." Looking down at them, he finds his elbows raw and bleeding. "Ow. No wonder they hurt." He says as he looks at them.

"We should put some bandages around them. I don't want it to get infected." She checks her pockets. "I know I had some on me before, where did I put them?"

He smiles. "The thought is kind enough. But we don't have time to wraps these elbows, we need to make sure we get to Raven. Asgard might follow us behind if we don't hurry."

"Then we'll take of it at the hospital," she says as she moves on.

The farther run down the tunnel the darker it gets, to the point that Loki calls out to Alice several times to make sure that she still near him. "Alice?" He calls out for the fifth time.

"I'm still here," she tell him.

"Can you hold out your hand behind you?"

She does what he says. "What do you need my hand for?" As she says that, Loki holds a hand in front of him and grabs onto Alice's.

A little later, he calls out to her again. "Alice?"

"Yeah?"

"Your hand seems warmer. Is there something wrong?"

"No!" She bursts out without thinking. "My hand has always been this warm."

"Really?" He asks. "I thought I've held your hand enough to know the difference. I'm sorry then, Alice."

"Sure." Gosh, Edwin is so dense sometimes. Of course my hand would get warmer if you hold it. I'm sure glad that it's dark in here though, I wouldn't want you to see my face.

Slowly but surely, they begin to hear noises above them. "Alice," he calls out for the last time. "We're close now. I can hear people above us."

"Yeah," she agrees happily. "Let's hurry up!" She pulls him to go faster.

Soon, Loki spots the sliver of light he saw the first time he came through the passage. "Alice! I see the light! We're almost at the end of the tunnel."

Unlatching the door, he throws the door open, letting the awful smell in. He follows Alice up the ladder, and just as she's about to open the door to the street, she turns around. "Um," she says while her face flushes.

"What's wrong, Alice?" He ask, clueless to Alice's silent expression.

Her faces reddens. "I was wondering if," she pauses. "When this is over, I was wondering if you would like to..." She stops.

"Yeah, Alice? What is it? We got to get to Raven soon."

"Oh never mind," she grumbles. "Forget I even said anything."

She thrusts the door open, and a cold breeze blasts into their face, but it's soon closed again. They turn around, alarm lighting their faces.

"Forseti!" Alice yells as she watches him appear from a dark corner.
