Chapter 7

"Ah, Pleasance, that's where you are. What have you been up to while I was," I yawn loudly while I carry my heavy feet into the room. "Sleeping? Do you know why I was asleep in my bed?"

She turns to look at my tired self. "You feel asleep at your desk, bored of work as usual I believe, so I put you to bed. Well, now that you are awake you can go back to work."

"What? No! I just woke up. Come on Pleasance, not now." I groan and slump down at my desk, trying to feign sleep.

Pleasance rolls her eyes. "Well, then I guess you could answer a few questions I have." I raise my head. "While I was working twice as hard since I was the only one awake, I decided to see what Asgard was doing. They were talking about us during the meeting. It was vague, but I became slightly suspicious about how Odin got that information. Then Frey and Freya were talking about you, maybe me, and a spell-to be more specific, a spell that's weakening. I'm wondering what they're talking about, could you tell me?"

My mind starts to panic. W-What? Just how did Odin get a hold of that information? I can't tell Pleasance about the spell, it's too soon.

"Let me see those cards." I say, hoping that only minimal information was leaked. I breathe with relief when it is. "I have no idea how Odin was able to get that information, but the spell is of no concern. Though I will tell you this: the spell's weakening can be taken care of, and it will be."

"Okay, then what about Frey and Freya?" Pleasance stares. Oh, why did I have to wake up to this? The one time that Pleasance doesn't care about work had to be this? Really? I slump back in my chair, staring at the ceiling.

"Frey and Freya know about Loki's 'condition,' since I can't watch over everything he does." I force myself look back at Pleasance. "They knew about it before two years ago, but after what happened then... I can't risk it happening again." I sigh. "Just remember, his 'condition' is extremely harmful to the world when it goes berserk. As long as Alice is fine, we won't have a problem with him."

Pleasance studies my words, like she's deciphering them to find a loophole. I wish she would stop, I can't have her to get too close to the truth. I'll tell you, Pleasance, in due time, but you have to be patient with me, I have so little courage for this topic.

However, she asks yet another question, "Odin, I may be wrong on this, but it seems like you're avoiding to tell me something, a certain part of a question I asked. I also wanted to know what Frey and Freya were talking about, which is the spell. What is this spell that they're talking about and what does it have to do with me?" Her words press hard against me and the lump in my throat grows. "Be honest. I know you told me that it's of no concern to me, but could you at least tell me about my connection to it?"

I know that concerned look, but telling her the truth-I can't do that. I continue my silence. I'm at a loss, it's quite true, but I can't avoid this. I have to make a decision soon, otherwise Pleasance will know that it's bad.

She walks around me to the door. I wonder if she's preparing to leave, but instead, she closes the door and leans against it, to prevent me leaving the room. I see, so that's what she's doing. She's not going to let me out until she has an answer.

"Sir." She nearly begs. "Why won't you give me an answer? Is it that I'm untrustworthy or do you just think I'm incapable?"

"It's not like that Pleasance; you're perfectly trustworthy and it is not a matter of capability. I just have a reason, that's all." I turn around, Goosebumps lining my arms. I'm really afraid that I'll end up telling her.
