"We aren't eating anything special tonight, right?" David asked, standing slightly in front of me to block me from his family. "I was gonna take Mona to Uncle Fish's and then to Trevor's."

"Trevor Aldrich?" Sam raised his eyebrows in a surprised manner, and David nodded. "You still talk to him?"

"Not really," David shrugged, then looked at me. "Don't really wanna play boardgames with Mona and the fam though, and he invited me. He's having a party tonight."

"If you drink, no driving," John warned. "I mean it."

"Okay," David nodded, grabbing his keys from the table in the foyer. "Bye, guys."

"Bye, everyone!" I awkwardly waved, shuffling after David and shutting the door quietly behind me. David was, surprise surprise, already in the car before I could even get down the front steps. I rolled my eyes, climbing into the car and immediately wrapping my arms around my waist to create some type of warmth. I thought the convertible in the day time was cold, but without the sun, I was quite literally freezing my ass off.

I didn't feel like talking to David, and he didn't make any moves to talk to me, so our car ride was silent besides the steady hum of Top 40 radio. Luckily, it was only a ten or so minute drive.

We ended up outside a run down restaurant right on a pier, which made me a bit hesitant to set foot in it. Not only was the smell of fish strong, but the outside seemed to be caked in dirt or worse, mold. I was almost gagging just setting foot in the place.

It was packed, which was a shock to me. The whole place seemed to be bustling around and working in perfect harmony, almost like a Waffle House after a football game in Texas. I was just as surprised to see the wait staff perk up when David entered, waving us over to the bar where we both took a seat. "David Dobrik, do my eyes deceive me?"

"Hi, Tasha," David rolled his eyes at the short, plump, old woman standing behind the counter in front of us. "I know it's been forever. I didn't come up here in October. You're looking beautiful as always."

"Don't be flirtin' with me in front of your girl, now!" Tasha lightly slapped his hand, her bright, amused green eyes shifting to look at me. "You're the prettiest one yet, I'm telling you. I'm Tasha, doll."

"I'm not his girl," I reassured her with a small smile. "But I am Mona. Nice to meet you!"

"Feisty. You gotta be like that with this kid," she replied, raising her eyebrows in a surprised manner. She reached into one of the front pockets of her apron and pulled out a notepad. "What do you kids want?"

"I'll take an iced tea and fish and chips," David replied, and I quickly grabbed the small menu and perused it. I was a picky eater, and seafood was a fat no, so I settled on the next best thing.

"Um, can I have a water and a grilled cheese?"

"With the soup?" Tasha asked, and after pondering, I nodded. David could pay for a two dollar cup of soup. "Comin' right up, doll. David, be sweet to your lady and go put a song on the jukebox for her."

She not so slyly slid two quarters across the counter to him, then waddled over to start our order. David turned to me and said, "You got a grilled cheese at the best seafood place in Illinois?"

"I hate seafood," I shrugged, and David rolled his brown eyes back so far, he probably could've seen his brain if he had one.

"You hate everything," he countered. I nodded.

"Including you."

David rolled his eyes again, snatching the quarters from the counter and spinning on his barstool to face outward. He sauntered over to the jukebox, whose music was barely audible above the chattering of customers and the bustling of the kitchen. He leaned up against it, seemingly reading every single song in an attempt to find the perfect one. In the time it took him to go through the hundreds of songs programmed into the jukebox, our food came. I began chowing down on my grilled cheese before he finally inserted the quarters and pressed a couple buttons.

The beginning notes were unmistakable. Jet's Are You Gonna Be My Girl? played through the speakers. Of course that's the song he would pick. From over by the jukebox, he gave me a smug look, then began playing air guitar off beat with the song. I laughed, embarrassed that half the restaurant was watching him sing to me, but he didn't seem to care. He began approaching me, grabbing my foot and pulling it up to his hip as the song went big black boots, long brown hair, she's so sweet with her get back stare. I rolled my eyes, trying my hardest to hide my blush. By this point, with David playing the air guitar using my leg, the entire restaurant's prying eyes were getting to my head.

"I said, are you gonna be my girl?" he looked me directly in the eyes as he sang along. I snatched my leg away from him, covering my face with my hands to escape the eyes of the strangers.

It was, for lack of a better word, adorable. It was adorable to watch David dance and sing with no qualms as to whether or not the other restaurant goers would judge him or care. I sighed, "Stop! You're so embarrassing. My soul is literally crushed."

"You're so dramatic," David chuckled, plopping down in his seat like nothing just happened. He immediately dug into his food, moaning as soon as a bite of fried fish entered his mouth. "Jesus Christ. You've gotta try it, Mona. You'd fucking love it."

"I'd rather choke on my own vomit than eat that shit," I turned my nose up, funneling a spoonful of hot tomato soup into my awaiting mouth. I almost asked him about Trevor, whose house we were going to tonight, but someone beat me to it. A slap on David's shoulder caught us both off guard, and he turned around to see a guy probably our age or a little older, with long, stringy blonde hair and acne dotting his cheeks. His smile was crooked, but ridiculously white, and he was wearing a tie-dyed muscle tank and basketball shorts despite the temperatures.

"Hey, Derek, what's up, man?" David and Derek did a little bro hug, David still munching on his french fries with his mouth wide open. Appetizing, I know.

"You coming to Trev's tonight? We've got grass and everything," Derek cockily smiled, as if he was proud that a high school party had weed. I had to roll my eyes.

"Yeah, we'll be there," David replied, and that's when Derek's eyes first landed on me. His smile was sleazy, almost, as he looked me up and down with so much smugness radiating off of him, he made David look like a good person.

"Can't wait to see you there, babe," he smirked, walking backwards to make his way out of the restaurant. With a quick wave to David, he was gone. I felt gross sitting there, and I wasn't sure how I'd last the whole night with him, especially if everyone else at the party was just like that.

I guess I'd find out.
