It was David, of course, stopping me from going home to nap before working with Todd, because who else would it be?

"What the hell are you doing?" he frowned, clearly a little ticked off at everything that happened at lunch. "You won't talk to me all day, and now you're hanging out with Todd? I mean, come on, you can do better than that!"

"What's better than that? You?" I joked, laughing when his anger didn't seem to fade. "Calm down, David. We're just hanging out. Besides, you didn't talk to me either! And you let Gabbie give you a fucking boner at lunch, so I don't want to hear it."

"So you're gonna go sleep with Todd?" David scoffed. "You hold out on me, and now you're going to fuck Todd?"

I didn't even say anything, but by the look on his face, I knew he knew he fucked up. He quickly backtracked, panicked, "Not what I meant."

"What exactly did you mean, David?" I crossed my arms over my chest to show I meant business.

"I mean, you can't act the way you did with me in New York and then turn around and go on a date with Todd," he sighed, frustrated with the situation.

His words pissed me off, though, so I simply said, "Watch me."

With that, I turned on my heel and left the school, also leaving David in the dust.

Once I got home, I changed into a comfier outfit (gray joggers and a LANY t-shirt I got at a concert), then I took a nap. It felt nice to relax and be carefree for once, especially considering most nights I had to worry about schoolwork or David or my friends or all of the above. After I woke up, it was pretty much time to go, so with a quick touchup to the mascara smeared below my eyes, I left my house once again.

Todd and I were drinking our iced coffees and minding our business for only thirty or so minutes before the bell that signaled the door opening jingled. I looked up out of instinct, smiled at David, who had just walked through the door, and then looked back down at my work. Wait. David?

"Oh my god," I groaned, burying my face in my arms and refusing to get up. "Look who's here."

"Hey David!" Todd waved him over. David held up one finger and then pointed to the register, where he started ordering. "What's wrong? After your weekend in New York, I thought you guys were, like, basically official."

"Okay, first of all, I told him we were on a date, and the only reason he's here is to stalk me," I frowned, then as an afterthought added, "And how the hell did you know about New York?"

"All of us know," Todd shrugged casually, like it wasn't at all a big deal that David had shared my secrets. "We're the ones that hyped him up before he kissed you on New Years. He was facetiming us when he left you alone on the balcony. I thought he told you that."

"No," I sighed. "He didn't."

"Oh, fuck," Todd winced. "I, uh... I have to go to the bathroom. I'll be back... later."

He managed to time it just right. As soon as he stood up to leave, David took his place across from me. He smirked, "Hi, beautiful."

"What are you doing here?" I sighed, closing the book I was reading from altogether. As long as David was here, we weren't going to make any progress on our project. That was just a fact. I witnessed it many, many times in our lit class.

"I was just craving a coffee," David shrugged casually, but the smug smile that didn't leave his face told me otherwise. "What a coincidence that you're here too! Study date?"

"Like you didn't hear me tell Todd to meet me at Starbucks," I scoffed, rolling my eyes and crossing my arms over my chest defensively. "So I'll ask again, what are you doing here?"

"I came to see you, sweetheart," David sighed, placing his chin in the palm of his hand. "Just to see what you and Todd were doing."

"You realize that sounds crazy, right?" I frowned. "We're working on a project, not filming porn in Starbucks."

"But you made it seem like you were filming porn in Starbucks."

"Why don't we talk about the fact that you told your friends everything that happened in New York?" I changed the subject entirely, trying desperately to hide the blush that had spread to my cheeks. Was I a little crazy in lying to David about my plans for the evening with no good reason? ...Maybe a little.

"I didn't," David rolled his eyes. "They only know we kissed, if that's what you're worried about. I don't finger and tell, Mona."

"Ew," I turned my nose up, managing to both blush and shudder at the same time. "Don't say that again. We're in public."

David laughed at that and said, "Anyways, do you want to hang out after you're done with your project? We can go get pizza. I'll pay."

"Duh, you'll pay, you rich ass freak," I sassed. "But I can't. I have homework to do after this. We have a reading check tomorrow."

Just as I said this, Todd made his way back from the bathroom, pulling up his chair to the now overcrowded table. "What's up, man?"

"I just came to get a coffee," he replied, and as if on cue, the barista called his name and set his drink on the counter. "Gonna need the energy to study for the reading check tomorrow. I've heard it's super hard."

"Go," I finally sighed, feeling the relief flow over my body when he stood up to grab his drink.

"Goodbye, Mona," David singsonged, a cheesy and cheeky smile on his face.

"Goodbye, David," I genuinely smiled (because he was leaving and I could finally get my work done). "See you tomorrow."

"You wanna kiss me before I go?" David grabbed my wrist and yanked me up before I could even think to hold myself down.

"No," I awkwardly blushed and looked at Todd, who was sat staring at us with a smile on his face.

"Not like he doesn't know," David half rolled his eyes, his fingers on his right hand gently playing with my own. "Just one kiss. I'm not going to be able to study if you don't."

"Wow, peer pressure much?" I raised my eyebrows in amusement at him. He didn't take his eyes off me, and he didn't lean in, encouraging me to do it myself. In the back of my mind, I heard the bell ring above the door, but I didn't think anything of it. I leaned in quickly for a very small, very quick kiss.

It surprised both me and David when a gasp sounded from behind us. I turned on my heel to see none other than Liza Koshy, jaw dropped, staring at the two of us in complete and utter shock.

"What the fuck?"

oh shit lmao
