"I will not be separated from my daughter when I am the one that can protect her!" Klaus shouted.
"She just went back to Mystic Falls, Klaus. And have you forgotten that she goes to a school for the supernatural? Alaric, Caroline, hell! Even her classmates will protect her!" Hayley argued back.
Natalia was eavesdropping from her room while washing the blood from her hands. She knew Hayley was right, bringing Hope back could put her in even more danger. Everything that has happened so far has happened here in New Orleans. It wasn't safe for Hope, Klaus knows this deep down.
"That is not good enough. She has a target on her back, you think some fifteen year old witches are going to be enough?"
"Then I will go and protect her," Hayley interjected. "I'm her mother, she's our daughter, I'm the best one to protect her."
"We'll go too," Natalia heard Kol. "She's my niece, Davina and I will go with Hayley and we will keep her safe."
"Fine, leave now and don't let her out of your sight."
Natalia heard them all leave the room.
Just before Natalia was to change their was a knock at the door.
"Come in."
Kristof walked in with a serious look on his face and shut the door.
"What's wrong?"
Kristof took her hand and led her to the bed where they both sat down.
"Natalia, we need to get you out of New Orleans."
"What? Why?"
"You really need to ask? Natalia, you're in danger. You have already been kidnapped since you've been here, and just tonight another vampire came for you. I think it's time we get you somewhere safe, away from all of this."
"We can't just leave," Natalia said standing up. "We have to stay and fight back."
"If we stay you could get more hurt, or worse." Kristof stood back up in front of her.
"If we leave now we can avoid all of this, I know somewhere we can go." Kristof placed his hands on her shoulders. "I can protect you from this, if you let me."
It was a no brainer for Natalia.
"No, I won't leave, not now. I will not run; not when Hope is also in danger." Natalia shrugged her shoulders out of his grip.
"Hope is innocent, and if something were to happen to her while I was running away from all this I could never forgive myself. I can't go knowing I can help put an end to this, I will not abandon my family."
The words were out before she had even realized what she said.
Kristof let out a scoff.
"You're family? You've seen to have forgotten that your so called family abandoned you when you needed their protection the most!" He hissed at her.
"This is not your fight! I was the one that was there for you when they weren't. I was the one who came for you when you were taken, when you were turned. Did you forget that?"
"Of course I haven't. I owe you so much and you know how much I value you! But what you're asking is impossible for me to do, Kristof."
"Their has been nothing but trouble since you got here! Are you willing to die due to the transgressions of the Originals? Of Elijah's?"
"It is not all on them, Kristof! I killed Jonathan, do you remember that? His wife was the one that kidnapped me!"
"Yes! And it was because of the Originals that Jonathan came after you in the first place. Every bad thing that has happened to you can be traced back to them."
"Even so, I will not abandon them now."
Kristof turned away from her, too angry to look at her a the moment. Her stubbornness was one of the many things that he loved about her, but not now when it could get her killed.
Natalia knew Kristof just wanted her safe, but she also knew running was not the answer. She needed to face this, and the sooner they found out who was after them the sooner it would be over.
Natalia stepped closer to Kristof and put a hand on his shoulder.
"Krisof," she said softly. "When this is all over, we can get out of here. You and me, somewhere with white sand and crystal blue water." Kristof turned to face her.
"What about Elijah?"
"Kristof, please we've talked about this."
"I know what you've said, but I just don't believe you. You still care for him, even if you can't see it, I do. And I have a hard time believing you're going to be able to be the one that leaves this time."
Natalia didn't know what she could say to make him believe she was over Elijah. Because at this point, she wasn't sure anymore.
"Your silence is enough. I should go."
"Kristof please, wait."
Kristof closed the door behind him, leaving the compound he passed Elijah, who had heard every word.
Natalia covered her face in her hands and let out a scream. She had never fought with Kristof, and it was the worst feeling. With her face in her hands she sat down on her bed with her elbows resting on her knees.
She understood where he was coming from, but should he really of been so surprised that she declined to leave with him? Of course she couldn't leave now. Leaving would only be dragging things out longer.
But then what he said about Elijah. After all of this was over, would she be able to leave and just go back to her life like it was before? Now that Elijah was back in her life?On one hand, she wanted nothing more than that. To be the one who now had that choice to leave, and to hurt him like he hurt her. But at the same time, a small part of her wanted to be with him. She knew he still had feelings for her, but did she want to be thrust back in his life again and risk getting hurt again?
"Natalia." She looked up to see the man that plagued her thoughts standing at the door.
Elijah went to her and knelt down in front of her, slowly bringing his hand to her cheek, wiping away a tear she hadn't noticed fall.
And just for a moment, stayed like that, unmoving.
Natalia looked away, reminding herself of the fight she just had with Kristof.
"Are you alright?"
Natalia bit her lip to stop it from trembling, attempting to hide her sadness.
"I'll be fine." Natalia stood up, trying to compose herself. "I assume you heard everything."
Elijah stood up and put his hands in his pocket. "You were both quite loud."
Natalia almost laughed.
"I'll be fine, he just needs to cool off."
"And you?"
"What about me? I told you Elijah, I'm fine. Friends fight sometimes, it happens." Natalia looked away from him.
She heard Elijah step closer to her. She continued to look out the window, knowing that if she looked at him now while she was still upset that she just might sob right then.
"Look at me."
Biting her lip again she looked back at him.
Before she knew it, Elijah had his arms wrapped around her in a comforting hug. At first, she was stunned. But then he wouldn't let go, so Natalia wrapped her arms around him. And just for this time alone, they stayed like that and she let herself be held in his arms.
