"Hello?"

"Quit acting like you don't have caller ID when you answer your phone, Dobrik. I know you know it's me," I laughed into the phone, quickly pressing the speaker button and then setting it down next to the stove.

"What do you want me to say? Hi, Genevieve, who I love and care for so deeply?" he replied sarcastically, and I could tell there was some type of shuffling on his end. "Did you need something, or did you just call to berate me about the way I speak to you?"

"What are you doing right now?" I asked, stirring the pot of noodles in front of me carefully.

"Filming with Todd. Well, actually, we're done. I just gave him Lakers tickets. Why?"

"I need you to come over. I have a surprise for you!" I cheered, once again glancing down at one of the pans on the stove to make sure nothing was burning. "Can you be here in ten minutes?"

"I can try. Is the surprise you naked?"

"No, stupid. You know, the more you talk about us having sex, the less I want to have sex with you," I mentioned with a giggle. "Just come please."

"Okay, I'll be there in nine minutes."

"Nine? You couldn't just say ten?"

"No, babe. I'm always one step ahead of you," he said ominously, and then with his signature laugh added, "Remember that."

"Okay, dummy. See you later," I said my goodbyes and hung up the phone, quickly realizing I had to start plating before David got here.

I threw some of the pork onto the plate and put some noodles next to it, topping it all with the sauce that I made. It looked kind of gross, but if it made David happy, I'd eat it. I put both of our plates on my small little dining table, along with two glasses of water and two glasses on lemonade. After realizing that was the best I could do, I went to fix my hair a little and make sure I looked okay. Once satisfied, I went to wait on the couch for him.

It actually took David twelve minutes to get to my apartment, but I never mentioned it. When he walked in, he raised his eyebrows at what he saw (and probably what he smelled). He said, "What the hell? Did you make that?"

"My first attempt at Slovakian cuisine," I smiled, standing from my spot on the couch to give him a quick kiss. "C'mon! Try it! I'm so nervous."

"How'd you even know how to make it?" David asked, the confusion and surprise still prominent on his face.

"I called your mom," I shrugged like it was obvious, dropping into my chair. "She said it looked great when I sent her a picture."

"Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah," David laughed, grabbing my hand that held my fork to stop me from continuing. "Start from the beginning. How'd you even get my mom's number?"

"Well, you never go home and I thought you might be a little homesick, so when you left me alone with Jason the other night while you and Trisha talked—not that I'm still mad about it or anything—I told him my concerns. He thought it'd be a good idea to make a hardy, Slovakian meal for you. He's going to do it in a week or something for a video, I think. Anyways, he gave me your mom's number. Now, can you try it before it gets cold and you think it's terrible?"

"Eve, you are sassy today," David chuckled, grabbing a fork and spearing through some of the macaroni noodles and a smaller piece of pork. He shoved it into his mouth and moaned, rolling his eyes dramatically back into his head. "Babe... holy shit. Perfect. You're perfect. I love you."

"I love you too," I blushed, unable to meet his eyes. All I wanted was to make him happy, and I think I achieved that. "Your mom told me to tell you to call her more, by the way."

"I call her all the time," David shrugged. "What else did you guys talk about?"

"You, mainly," I teased, taking my first bite of the meal. It wasn't exactly my cup of tea, but it wasn't awful. "She told me that you talk about me a lot. She wanted to know if we were official."

"Why'd you say it like that?" David chuckled, his mouth still full of noodles. "Are you mocking my mother for wanting to know if we're boyfriend and girlfriend?"

"No."

"What'd you tell her?" David asked, trying to hold back his smirk.

"I told her fuck no, I'm not dating her idiotic son," I giggled sarcastically, attempting to push the carrot sauce off my noodles. "I told her yes, David. What'd you think I told her?"

"I already told her we were dating. I think she was testing you. Do you like the food?"

"Eh," I shrugged, still picking at it. "I probably should've tasted the sauce before I put it all over everything on my plate, but... I was too stupid."

"Well, I think it's amazing," David leaned over to place a sloppy kiss on my cheek. "I think you're the best person ever. Who the fuck else would think of doing something like this? I love you, Genny. You're my favorite person ever.

"I love you too," I giggled. "I'm glad you like it. Your mom gave me step by step directions, but I'm not a fucking chef extraordinaire like her. I got nervous just cooking the onions."

"You did good, I swear. If it sucked, I'd tell you," David reassured me, which I knew was true. David was sweet, but I had no doubt in my mind he'd spit my food right back out if he hated it. "Thank you. That's the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me."

And that was that. I sat at David's while Jason cooked the meal again, and I watched on for the final taste test. I had to smirk triumphantly when David said, "Oh, Genevieve's got you beat. She's half Slovak, I can tell."

"I knew I should've made her help!"
